Even though some have said the W3 will be getting the buses from the 78 is there enough buses from that route to convert it to hybrids or will it need some from the southern garages to complete it? Nope, a few more will needed to be poached even if the W3's cut to 19 happens as there is 18 at AE on the 78 so another 2-3 is needed at least. I imagine HA20 will return to TH from AE once the 78 is lost as well. I thought as much as the city hybrids are very tight allocation wise. I know the 198 took some from 133/333 for it's contract last year

Ten years ago, buses on the Bankside used to be bustling on the 381 and the RV1 with its 10 minute frequency on all days. Then the Thameslink upgrade works at London Bridge pretty much killed the RV1 and the disruption drove people off the 381. Total shame the 381 is dropping to 5bph for most of the day, with TfL relying on the 1, 78 and C10 to pick up the slack. TfL are also relying on passengers walking along the South Bank to alleviate the 381's new frequency.

If the route isn't exactly busting every 10 mins then the a 12 mins service will probably be sufficient for demand along Bankside. Probably improvements to the Jubilee line have taken demand away aswell.

Probably improvements to the Jubilee line have taken demand away aswell. It isn't bustling because of the horrid traffic delays the 381 has faced. Cycle works have ruined traffic light phasing at Blackfriars Road and Tower Bridge Road, and buses can lose up to 10 mins eastbound at each junction. There's also the junction of Southwark Street/Borough High Street which is still reduced to one lane. Things within TfL's control (all junctions mentioned are red routes) have hampered the 381 for the best part of a decade. We can't always say Tube improvements are the demise of bus patronage, especially in central London where short hop trips by train are often completed quicker by bus. But hey, why bother making buses in central more reliable when a single zone 1 trip cost almost double that of a bus trip?

I would certainly say off peak there would be an element of that in order to make use of spare capacity on the tube. I'd imagine that's partly why the freedom pass has survived on the tube/train so long as it effectively get people on a high freq service when demand is lower.

LOTS are reporting that the rerouting of routes 77 and 211 has been postponed until next year. I noticed that too. I am now less disappointed to have gone to Battersea Power Station last month.

Whilst the 211 re route wasnt necessarly to replace anything, the 77 was re route was partly in compensation for the loss of the 507 to Lambeth Bridge which has long gone ahead now.
