Do you know what the 270s are doing for changeovers? The amount of Wandsworth curtailments on the 270 in the last few months has been absurd, and the 220 certainly isn’t a reliable alternative, making for a quite unfortunate corridor. Wandsworth is just a horrific place to run buses through though. Even when there aren’t additional roadworks there to ruin things even more! Not sure I'd entirely agree with that - the one way system is always flowing pretty well and it's only the Wandsworth High Street arm that can sometimes jam up but it's not as regular as you might think (those proposed works that would of saw Wandsworth High Street become bus only in both directions would of solved that). Battersea Rise on the other hand is a horrible stretch of road that the 77 & 219 have to suffer and the 219 already has to put up with Trinity Road & the Tooting to South Wimbledon section as it is & West Hill is equally awful that the 170 has to put up with but Wandsworth isn't that bad.

Yeah I agree with this, Wandsworth isn’t that bad normally. There have often been roadworks on West Hill though recently which forces traffic to back up for significantly long distances in all directions it’s coming from, that’s when Wandsworth gets really bad. On any normal day though Wandsworth is fine when it comes to traffic.

Cut in frequency on route 110 from x15mins to x20mins Mon-Sat daytime. Very disappointing given the decent loadings on the relatively new Whitton to Richmond link.
Changes to buses from Saturday 1 June 2024 The following timetable changes will take place from Saturday 1 June
A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 26 which will widen the frequency of the service to a bus every 11 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and to every 13 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays. This temporary timetable will give buses more time to complete journeys during the displacement of traffic during the northbound closure of Farringdon Street at Ludgate Circus.
A temporary timetable will be introduced on route 32 which will widen the frequency of the service to a bus every 9 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 13 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays. This temporary timetable will give buses more time to complete journeys during HS2 works on Kilburn High Road.
Route 110 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels. Buses will now run every 20 minutes during both the daytime and evening on all days of the week.
Route 253 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels. Buses will now run every 8 minutes during the daytime and every 10 minutes during the evening on all days of the week.
Route 254 will have a new timetable on all days of the week with journey times revised to better reflect current traffic levels. Buses will now run every 8 minutes during the daytime and every 10 minutes during the evening on all days of the week.

Early morning and evening frequencies on all days of the week increased to x12mins.

I personally think this is a route that needs to be split back in 2, or potentially even 3 at a push similar to the old structure. 110 back to West Mids to Hounslow, H22 returned to Hounslow, and a 391 recreated in some form - or perhaps the 190 rerouted via the 391 routing with the 190 routing via Chiswick Bridge being the subject of another route.

I agree that the route should not be as long as it is. This has led to unreliability and some users abandoning it for other options largely for local journeys. As a handy "around the corner" link between Kew Gardens station and Kew Gardens the place it was used by quite a few folk who preferred to not walk that distance. But not if it means waiting 20 - 30 minutes as has become the norm while one bus suffers delays and ends up just ahead of the next. Probably turned too though that doesn't often matter locally within Kew or Richmond.
On paper it could go along Manor Road to Sheen but in reality the level crossing and the length of time that is closed to road traffic has always made that a very bad idea. The gates are usually lowered across the road for more than 30 minutes in an hour.
It really does need to be reverted back to its old self. The changes around Twickenham and Richmond made at that time have not been popular nor well supported.

I don't think anyone is happy to see the cut, myself included, but it is worth noting that: A - there are quite a number of other small-scale improvements coming to routes in inner and outer London, 253/254 for instance getting better Sunday daytime frequency etc as did the 306 recently. I know it's small but these things do add up to the overall strength of the network and gently expanding it to cater for every last punter. B - even in the halcyon days of Ken Livingstone as Mayor where there was a huge increase in bus mileage and usage, some routes got trimmed back at times. I think the picture is overall, still positive for buses in London despite a few challenges and I think in 4 years time there will be quite a lot of things that are improved on today - more express buses, more electric buses etc

On closer inspection of the new 306 timetable, the Sunday increase from x20mins to x15mins only applies from noon onwards, which is really spreading the jam thin.

Buses in London need to travel at better speeds to restore their competitive edge over the private car. Averaging somewhere bwtween 7 and 9mph is not attractive. Being subject to 20mph maximum speeds and still having to wait at stops / traffic lights / turns only slows things down. Slower services require more drivers and extended running time or a reduced PVR and inferior headways. The spiral is heading downwards in my opinion. We can reverse it now or we can wait until we reach the 1970s again when wholesale cuts were being made and 30-minute headways were starting to become the norm in many areas.
If we are to offer a reasnable alternative to the convenience of hopping into the car when we want to and being able to park more or less where we want to without being subjected to all the intermediate stops then significant action needs to be taken. Buses will (mostly) still need to serve all stops but traffic-light priority isn't hard to arrange - though it costs money - and the reversion to 30mph default speed limits on all bus routes other than through major housing estates will be a start. It is frankly ridiculous that buses are also given so much padding in the schedules. An 80-minute end-to-end trip on the 281 for example often includes 15 minutes sat wasting time and frustrating those on board.
