One for the historians here. 01/09/24 will see some changes in Hertfordshire. The long-standing 386, once one of hte longest and least-frequent Country Area routes, will finally cease to exist. Almost. Likewise the 383 and 384 which have survived from early LT days until now. The 386 (Bishops Stortford - Stevenage) hasn't squeezed through Cottered for many years having been re-routed to reach Stevenage via Hitchin rather than the other way around. The single journey which still follows the original LOR operated by Richmond's Coaches between BS and Puckeridge via Wellpond Green will remain and retains the 386 number. The main route is split into 36 (eastern half) and 37 (western half) split in but connecting across Buntingford. Frequency is improved significantly using BSIP funds. The 384 (Hertford - Stevenage) is simply renumbered 38 and the 383 to 38A without any other changes but more long-lasting ex-LT route numbers are lost. History indeed! I remember riding both the 384 and 386 with Green and Golden Rovers, leaf-green Leyland Nationals and Bristol LHs.

I remember riding both the 384 and 386 with Green and Golden Rovers, leaf-green Leyland Nationals and Bristol LHs. I must have been a little before you. I rode them on green RFs and regret not having reached the 386 earlier as it was a GS route until that type was withdrawn. The very narrow lane through Cottered was considered unsuitable even for the fairly small RF class but short of withdrawing the route entirely a compromise had to be reached. It was good for pushing the bushes apart on both sides.

Another Sunday frequency increase. Will be interesting when this capacity data comes out and see what it takes to get a frequency increase.
Are TfL decreasing the frequency of 394 to help fund the extension? Either way seems terrible to extend a route but not provide a decent frequency.

Another Sunday frequency increase. Will be interesting when this capacity data comes out and see what it takes to get a frequency increase. Are TfL decreasing the frequency of 394 to help fund the extension? Either way seems terrible to extend a route but not provide a decent frequency. I think the 394 change is to do with the fact its currently withdrawn between Islington, Angel and Islington, Tolpuddle Street long term due to roadworks at Baron Street. This means the 394 isnt serving I believe the last 3-4 stops. The first stop and last stop will now be on City Road and it shares the stand with the 274, hence probably saving 15 minutes or so ish.

I'd be a bit surprised if the 17 was even that busy on a Sunday. Archway to Holloway has support and down the Caledonian Road. South of Kings Cross serves an area which is largely staffed only Monday to Fridays so I'm kind of surprised it's having its freq upped on a Sunday. It’s not really, It’s a fresh air route outside of peak times. I once audaciously (and a bit naively) said that the 17 would cope fine with SDs, but that was until I used it in the peaks and we were completely fully loaded after KX. But off peak the loads are very light I think it still would manage tbh. I did see the 17 today at around 10PM with a decent load of people heading to Archway, probably the busiest Ive ever seen, but considering it was a SD, it would still be packed, just more standing than seated. The 17 would be absolutely fine with an SD service, I don’t think it’s naive at all. It runs thin air between Archway and Caledonian Road, is a feeder for when the 91 doesnt show to King’s Cross, and then also picks up nothing during the office closed hours of Chancery Lane. Only real time you’ll see a busy 17 is probably in the early mornings, afternoon for the lunch breaks and late evenings.

Nothing much help with daytime on Monday to Friday? There are a lot of routes that could do with a Sunday frequency increase, at least during shopping hours, I'm astounded that the 314 is half hourly all day on a Sunday for example. Increasing Monday to Friday daytime services obviously requires more buses.
