Inspired by seeing an Abellio V reg pointer Dart on the K1, thought it would be interesting to see how many older buses are still in use on TfL service
To keep it simple, I thought it is easiest to do this on registration plate, and as just about to change to 15-regs suggest cut-off should be 51-reg or earlier. So will take 13 years as a cut-off. Here is the dates registrations issued
V prefix Sep99-Feb00 (15 - 15.5 years old) W prefix Mar00-Aug00 (14.5 - 15 years old) X prefix Sep00-Feb01 (14 - 14.5 years old) Y prefix Mar01-Aug01 (13.5 - 14 years old) 51 (new system) Sep01-Feb02 (13 - 13.5 years old) 02 (new system) Mar02-Aug02 (will become 13 years old Mar-Aug) subsequently Mar-Aug matches year, Sep-Feb has 50 added
Ignore trainers and the heritage routemasters etc.
To Kick-off my local RATP companies are London United : 51-reg DPS-587-592 (6 buses), TA204-225 (22 buses) London Sovereign : 51-reg DPS586 (1 bus on loan from LU) Quality Line : none
There are various 02-reg (both DPS and TA) which will hit 13th birthday in coming months, but wont list these as not yet old enough

I always wished that Abellio's V and Y reg Tridents were still in service within south west london. It was a sad day for me when those euro2 engine buses were withdrawn from the 152. I remember them first appearing on the 3 as if it was yesterday and loved them from the start, especially on the frequently used kickdown . Then to finally see my favourite low floor deckers running daily within a stone's throw of my gaff was a treat and a half during those 18 months on route.
Anyway back to the relevance of this thread, i am glad to see that the 152 still has chances of 51 (and 52) reg Tridents and hope they will stick around for quite a while yet. The batch on the 350 are soon to be replaced yet i suspect (hope) they will still find work elsewhere within the fleet.

The route 255 must rank as one of the routes serviced by the oldest buses. On the whole the newest bus is DWL16 on that route and its a 51 reg.

I've been wondering, short of being replaced by brand new buses, what existing buses in Arriva's South London fleet do you think might replace them? Perhaps the slightly newer DWS?

Seeing as the 444 is lost and transferring to Tower Transit in the coming weeks, I can potentially see PDL116,122 moving to TH to join PDL123 which appears to be allocated to route. Once the 312 receives it's new electric buses whatever the type maybe. Perhaps the remainder of the PDL's allocated to the route can transfer to TH until the contract comes up for tender. Or tender results elsewhere - i.e the 173 which has the potential to receive double deckers regardless of operator, could send it's ENL's to TH. There are a few possibilities, those are my two theories.

The withdrawl of the T31 once the proposed New Addington changes are implemented releases just enough ENL's to cover the 255's PVR's so maybe that might happen. I can't see the DWS being used as they are allocated to the 410 and are shorter than the DWL's at 9.4m (DWL's are 10.2m). It seems there is a few options though.

It's not confirmed but I think it's very unlikely those changes made in the consultation will be dropped.
