The 1804 train to Cannon Street gave me a bit of a scare today. Came up with Orpington on the blind and the announcements were wrong too.

Southeastern have had an appalling first week out of Govia hands. Ah yes, I forgot that adverse weather and signal faults were controllable under Govia 😂😂 Um....where did I say that it was anything to do with Govia? It’s just this sort of puerile nonsense that has driven me away from the forum before.

Exactly as I predicted a few weeks back when first announced about South Eastern. Unfortunately the drastic tumble in share price combined with a good range of both national and international operations will make Go Ahead a target. I think it is far more likely to be a target from private equity firms like EQT Partners, who recently acquired First Transit in the US, as opposed to First themselves. It still has to considered that First is still carrying a lot of debt even if it has sold off a number of subsidiaries in the last decade. I would definitely say watch this space but focusing on trains it will be interesting to see what happens with GTR, I would expect Govia to be barred from rail franchise bids akin to Stagecoach and look how well that has gone.

Looks like the Blackfriars to Maidstone service is set to start next year as a replacement for the proposed Cambridge to Maidstone Thameslink service.
Also it seems that the 2017 ITT franchise spec has been cancelled indefinitely, the 2022 timetable change was supposed to axe Charing Cross trains from the Woolwich & Bexleyheath lines for good, personally and perhaps selfishly I’m glad those lines will keep Charing Cross trains, its still a popular destination, though I had hoped that the Woolwich line would get Maidstone trains via Strood, which was proposed in the 2017 ITT.

The reduction in peak-time commuting means that finding paths isn't as critical as it was before. I would guess that the original plan was intended to get rid of as many conflicting train moves as possible to maximise track capacity, taking advantage of the increased capacity at London Bridge for transferring passengers.

According to the Southeastern website, from Monday February 21 2022, Southeastern will introduce new Off-Peak services on weekdays between Maidstone East and Blackfriars, all of which will call at West Malling, Borough Green & Wrotham, Otford, Swanley, Bromley South and Elephant & Castle.

I’d assumed they’d be non stop between Swanley or maybe St Mary Cray and London Bridge going through Grove Park etc.

Just out of interest as pointed out Bexleyheath/Woolwich Line was going to lose its Charing Cross service, if this was to happen was there any proposal on the Bexleyheath Line to up the frequency to give a metro service as compensation for the lose of Charing Cross?

I think it would have been 6tph all Cannon Street on the Bexleyheath line, it would have been the same on the Woolwich line except it may have still kept the Thameslink service at 2tph via Greenwich, although the ITT at the time made no mention of Thameslink. The whole thing is a non starter anyway, Charing Cross will always be a popular station, even the Thameslink trains have passengers getting off at London Bridge to get a CX train from platform 9/10, there are still Greenwich line passengers who still want the return of CX trains after all this time!
