According to Surrey Comet online, the Tolworth Tower redevelopment was passed tonight and developers are giving £425,000 to extend the 281. It currently uses a stand adjacent to the redevelopment site. Which will presumably be vacated. There was a separate proposal to extend 281 to a development near Tolworth station but that not part of the CNM Tower redevelopment. Where to ? That's a reasonable amount of money. Return to Chessington Industrial Estate Davies Road Believe it or not this isn't much at all. It is the cost of 1 bus and the 2-3 drivers required to drive it. I assume this is a one off payment and needs to last the length of the contract, which is up to 5 years.

I think plan is to extend it to the former Government offices site (Tesco were going to build, but sold it few months ago). It adds about extra 150-200m each direction so not sure it justifies an extra bus.

Tesco actually wanted to build a Transport Interchange or Bus Station outside Tolworth Station, with the road around the station modified.

Talking about the 465 is oyster valid on the whole route Yes it is. Only issue is the sparsity of places to top up once you get south of Chessington. There's a shop in Leatherhead and I think TfL eventually persuaded someone to do top ups in Dorking.

Friday sees the end of Kingston University buses operated by OFJ (taken over from TGM) as service only operates term time.
Service resumes mid September operated by London United (or United motor coaches)

There is a planning application for the massive Tolworth development Would see route 281 extended. Sections 112-114 of link give the details Looks like it will get a 41.5m long bus shelter (section 112), brick pillars and glass canopy (section 113), wooden panelled driver room (section 114) moderngov.kingston.gov.uk/documents/s73416/Report%20Pre-decision%20meeting.pdfConsidering the existing stand is sparse, does anyone else think a brick and glass shelter nearly 4 buses long is going to opposite extreme, even if a developer is paying. Section 341 has the comical bribe of a £60 Oyster card for each new flat ! Today's special offer, buy a £300,000 flat, get a £60 Oyster card..... (perhaps an annual travelcard might have been better offer) Section 419 has detailed breakdown of the costs of the bus extension

Section 419 has detailed breakdown of the costs of the bus extension Will there also be a lifting entry barrier, posh road surface that is damaged by leaky buses and snobby posh residents who walk round with clothes pegs over their noises when in the vicinity of common people using buses? I hope TfL will do something to safeguard its rights to terminate buses at this development so as to avoid a repeat of the North Brentford Quarter fiasco. And by safeguarding I mean ensuring that residents are forced to acknowledge and accept in their lease or purchase agreement that buses will be running 24 hours a day, 364 days a year in the vicinity of where they live and they have no legal right to seek to evict those buses or disrupt TfL's provision of said service. I note that someone complained about extending the 281 bus in the consultation - London United are quoted as a respondent. I wonder if they expressed concerns about the impact on reliability which is quoted? I also note that Network Rail are concerned about how their nearby freight facility might be affected by a new and large residential development. Looks like another thing for the residents to be forced to consider along with 24 hour buses and living beside a railway line / station. I hope someone's lawyers are on the case.

A new Tolworth area plan is due to go before Kingston Council Link to plan Page 37 has section on buses (plus map of possible changes listed on page 38), note massive extension to 281 (not just to Tolworth station), the Riverhill 965 bus (proposed for withdrawal) is also on map Page 38 has various proposed bus route changes, interestingly it refers to tests to satisfy TfL so presumably there has been some engagement with TfL

Can't see the justification for extending the 281 if the K2 is not overstressed on that section. I'm not very familiar with Tolworth as an area but I rather feel the "solution" to all those bits of tinkering in that report is actually a new locally based route from, say, Kingston University (Portsmouth Rd) to New Malden via Surbiton, Tolworth Hospital, Hook, Tolworth, New Malden. That could hoover up some of the links in the report, add capacity where needed and cover some of the lost bits of the 965 that, IMO, deserve replacement. I'd still like to see a bus run to New Malden past Riverhill but I recognise that's just inside Surrey. There is obvious flexibility as to how a new service would be routed. To start with a new route need not be hugely frequent but it at least gives the prospect of relieving known hot spots and may reduce car dependency for some local trips.

The shift working comments are welcome though, and it would provide for earlier journeys into the industrial estate, k1 is restricted on its current route around Malden Manor with narrow roads and bad parking, The 265 could be increased in frequency though, or extended to Surbiton via the K1.

Possibly route the bus from Tolworth Broadway via ahead Kingston Road, left Worcester Park Road(serving Riverhill), ahead( right) Cromwell Road, left Grafton Road, ahead The Avenue, then left onto Malden Road by Worcester Park Station.
