You could leave the Stratford termini as they are, but would need to swap the routeings between and Poplar as there's another low bridge on Campbell Road. The height sign on that bridge appears to be 14ft6in: double deck Scanias passed under it in the early days of the D8 and it was signed as 15ft until a couple of years ago. I wonder if works have reduced the clearance or if it's just been remeasured. Double deckers have no problem with the bridge in Campbell Road, the D8 was double-decked during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Bridge on St Mildreds Road used to display 14’9 now 14’6 bridge has been struck by many lorries and on Westhorne Avenue there is still some incorrect signs stating 14’9! Also the Bridge on Summer Hill by Chislehurst Station was changed to 14’3 for a short period of time and double deckers can fit under the bridge a few complaints were put into the council I believe to have it changed to 14’6. In addition during this period the 269 really and truly should have been diverted away from that Bridge however it was not the fault of the operator because double decker buses have used that road for years! Possibly the same reason for the bridge you mention. If the road has not changed I can imagine vehicles above that height could possibly still fit however a Circle sign gives orders no vehicles taller should be using that bridge.

I suspect these may be lower than 14ft 6ins. I was working in an office next to the bridge. The trailer of an articulated lorry hit the beam on the first day after the road re-opened.

Most double deckers are under 14'6" anyway, especially in the low floor era. There was a bridge in Acton Lane which restricted the E3 to single deckers in DMS days, but when the MCW Metrobus entered service they were slightly shorter than the DMS and could fit under so the route was converted. St Helens Corporation bought two batches of RTs in the 1950s, the only such vehicles to be bought new by any operator other than London Transport. Given the strong tradition of local bus building in North-West England it seems strange that St Helen's would buy an expensive bespoke London design; however the General Manager knew that the RT was slightly shorter than other contemporary designs and would fit under a couple of low bridges in the area. It saved having to buy and operate lowbridge vehicles, which were generally unpopular with passengers and crews due to their cramped layout. This is a little tongue in cheek as I don't want to derail this thread with route number chat but it would be fitting if any new cross-river route took the vacant number 82. (Yes, I know that used the Rotherhithe Tunnel!)

Disappointed to see that the 335 won’t be heading through Silvertown tunnel, I would have thought that the 335 was set to cross the river, the 129 makes no sense because the same journey between Lewisham and Beckton can be made by the DLR, plus it duplicates the 108 which crosses Blackwall tunnel already.
