Following a break last week due to the translator vehicles undergoing routine maintenance, 455 scrap moves continued yesterday with 455817 and 455820 going yesterday and 455833/455834 due to go tomorrow. This will then leave just six Southern 455's left at Stewarts Lane which will be: 455801 455804 455807 455812 455819 455836
The last pair should depart on Tuesday 9th August if the scrap moves carry on at the current rate.

Three months since the 455's were withdrawn, the last pair of units, 455804 and 455819 have just departed Stewarts Lane to Newport Docks for scrapping. They will probably be completely dismantled by this time next week www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:69314/2022-08-16/detailedReally sad to see all my childhood trains going for scrap, shame none could be saved , though Eversholt sadly put a total destruction order on the units so no parts could be salvaged either. Farewell Southern Class 455's: May 1983 - 16th August 2022

First trains on the Rainham Thameslink line cancelled today due to “electricity failure” I’ve been out of the country for the past two weeks, but I have noticed a lot of infrastructure failings on the Network at the moment, including two major incidents yesterday where the wires came down (again) between Hitchin and Peterborough and a power failure inside the Thameslink Core. I’d imagine some of it has been caused by the recent heatwave though.

Sadly somebody has been hit by a train this morning which has stopped everything to and from Bedford but almost every day recently it seems something has gone wrong on Thameslink. Often with driver changeovers at Finsbury Park the incoming driver has been delayed elsewhere and the train is sat blocking the platform until another driver can be found and the situation just snowballs.

First trains on the Rainham Thameslink line cancelled today due to “electricity failure” There has been so many issues these past few weeks across the GTR network, below are what has been causing issues on the TL North/GN side; Flooding at St Pancras High Level Tree on the OHLE at Hatfield Fire at Ewer Street Junction (London Bridge area) Person Hit by train at Sandy & Elstree 1D13 Pantograph damage at Biggleswade Hay on the OHLE at Biggleswade OHLE section trippings - Kentish Town - City TL Track defect at Ely Track defect at Littleport Signal Failure at Shepreth Branch Junction Loss of Signalling - Flitwick area Train Fault between Cuffley & Bayford Track Defect - Mill Hill Broadway area Track Circuit Failure at Blackfriars Track Circuit Failure at City Thameslink Some have had minimal effects while some have a major effects across the network along with crew shortages with many more issues from Kent/Sussex side which has had knock on effects to the network

A problem several miles down the line affects the whole line and places like Coulsdon South, Merstham etc are left without a service because of an issue in Cambridgeshire. It should be split up. The track circuit issues at CTK have been ongoing for some time. Why can’t Network rail fix it once and for all.

Took me 3 hrs to get from Welwyn GC to Finsbury Park. Yeah, not been the greatest couple of weeks.

Trouble is where do you terminate these trains in Central London

Whilst some changes are needed let's not throw the baby out with the bath water, it's a great network when it's running properly. And a lot of the recent problems have been beyond GTR control, NR problems, fires and other things caused by the weather conditions. Coulsdon South and Merstham would still be served by Southern services if Thameslink services are disrupted.

I use Thameslink daily and it’s constantly plaqued by issues. The concept of Thameslink looks great on paper, but so does fish and chips

The concept of Thameslink looks great on paper, but so does fish and chips Nothing wrong with fish and chips 😛 To my relatively simple mind, Thameslink looks way, way too complicated - something going wrong in Stevenage can screw up people’s journeys in Horsham which is faintly ridiculous. If there was a way of doing away with anything Thameslink in what would be regarded as Southeastern territory, that would help, I think, particularly the somewhat odd Rainham service, which really should be a Southeastern responsibility.
