Also I know that Abellio attempted to provide London buses for their rail replacement on Greater Anglia previously but logistically this didn't work out. However as quite a bit of GTR work is London based, they may end up using London buses when there is not much TfL work on

However as quite a bit of GTR work is London based, they may end up using London buses when there is not much TfL work on I guess it will depend on who pays more TfL or GTR. Either way one is getting subcontracted if both are on at the same time.

Man the Thameslink services were very poor this evening. The 1909 and 1939 trains from Hendon to Sutton via Mitcham Junction were both cancelled, meaning only a train every 30 minutes and at least two consecutive trains via Mitcham Junction were cancelled (possibly more). Even the 1924 train to Sutton via Wimbledon arrived 7 minutes late. Fortunately I was only travelling 2 stops to West Hampstead. The only good thing was that we managed to gain 2 minutes by West Hampstead however we still arrived 5 minutes behind schedule. It reminds me of last Friday morning when I had a similar situation with the GWR, with the 0334 train from Paddington not departing until 0339 and instead of arriving at West Drayton at 0354 it arrived at 0404

Great Northern trains are now running in passenger service using the new European Train Control System (ETCS). ETCS equipment was installed in the tunnels between Moorgate and Finsbury Park in 2020, but until last Monday (27th November) test running and training had been taking place outside passenger hours. The new signalling operates via a display in the driver's cab, which calculates a target speed based on other trains in the vicinity rather than relying on fixed signals, which will be switched out and removed. The resignalling is the first part of a wider project to bring ETCS to the whole East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh. www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/northern-city-line-starts-using-new-signals-in-passenger-service-67768/

The opening of Brent Cross West didn’t start off that well as there was disruption to trains at the start of service. The first train was meant to be the northbound 0647 to Luton but was delayed and departed at 0720, which meant it became the second train to use the station. The first train to stop was the southbound 0658 to St Pancras which departed at 0718. The first few morning trains used platforms 3 & 4 (which would be the normal departure platforms) whilst during the remainder of the day, the stopping services used platforms 1 & 2

The worst kept secret in the rail industry has finally been confirmed by the DfT - GTR will be getting the Class 379’s for Great Northern. This will result in a cascade in 387/1’s heading to Southern. www.find-tender.service.gov.uk/Notice/007878-2024The 379’s have also been purchased by Porterbrook.

I'm a fan of the 379s, and it's criminal they've been allowed to sit gathering dust for 2-3 years when they are quality trains. Are the 387s shifting anything out of Southern do we know yet? I see mention elsewhere of some extra services from next year in inner London to London Bridge.

Nothing formerly announced yet, but seems some 377s move over to SouthEastern, and more networkers are going to be withdrawn. All sorts of random rumours (eg the 376 metro trains moving to Southern inner suburban, in exchange for more 377s to SE), another rumour is Derby has been awarded a massive refurb contract for 375 and/or 377 to keep it busy, but will have to wait and see.

I've been told this is to increase rolling stock capacity, but did also see a message that it may result in some 377's going to Soitheastern but I can't confirm that
