So happy Poland are through and with Portugal through, I think we've got a great chance to reach the semifinals are very inconsistent - I just hope Lewandowski starts firing I can't see my Republic beating France but even if not, I hope they put in a great performance like against Italy - play like that and France won't know what will hit them. Republic of Ireland scored too early. I knew that would be problematic as soon as they scored. Unfortunately they conceded first and then the second goal so quickly after. Most likely result of heads going down. Then it was all France. The French defence still doesn't convince me.

Any predictions for the final? A few pints of the 'black stuff' might ease the pain

Looks like the Germans are being "German" (getting the job done)

Looks like the Germans are being "German" (getting the job done) With Slovakia giving them a helping hand lol. Good to see Mario Gomez back in a German shirt after being dumped by Bayern Munich & Germany a few years ago - quite an underrated player personally and reminds me of Giroud for France in that he provides more than just goals.

The French haven't looked particularly impressive and I don't think we (England) need have any fears, not that I'm suggesting for one moment that Iceland will be a formality. The ROI can go home with their heads held high.

Skrtel has had a very poor tournament. You'd think he would be playing well because he now needs to be noticed as Liverpool want to sell him. Gomez is a quality striker, the false 9 system with Gotze wasn't working. Gotze is suffering from a lack of playing time and it shows. Just saw the Ozil penalty again. Good save. Anyone else noticed that no strikers are taking penalties in this tournament?

Both sets of Irish fans have been the highlight of the tournament in terms of entertainment singing atmosphere and the occasional funny YouTube video. If we get at France we can beat them. Iceland however....

Although France haven't been impressive, they have shown they still get the job done and the true sign of a good team is getting good results even when your not playing well. If England does get past Iceland (on current form, that's far from a formality as you've suggested as well), France will have too much quality for them but that back four could hamper their chances of getting a trophy though only Italy's defence looks anything but suspect TBH.

England really should have won all three group games but anyway we went through to the knock out stages and that's the objective. I hope I'm not tempting fate but I think we'll beat Iceland comfortably.

The back 5 of Italy play together at club level as well as country. There's basically no better cohesive defensive unit in the tournament. Plus Buffon is about 104 his experience is invaluable.

Italian goalkeepers just don't seem to age, remember Dino Zoff?

I've never been a fan of Skrtel, dirty player who should have been sent off in the Wales game for a blatant elbow that the official behind the goal somehow failed to see.

Absolutely dirty play there.
