It would make 79 an ideal candidate to run out of RP

There's no need for 245 to be extended to PV. I actually think it's not a bad idea though. Not for the sake of it just to be extended to the garage to free space but for the people in the area to get access to Alperton Sainsbury's. It's a decent link to the mini retail park near Western Avenue. Most people who go to that retail park use their cars. There's no garuntee people in the Perivale area are going to want to go to Sainsbury's, especially as the stuff there is expensive. Now that there's a Lidl in Alperton, loads more people in the area are going there now instead of Sainsbury's.

And the 297 already goes to the Sainsbury’s, so I’m not sure what benefit extending the 245 would bring

Quite surprised to hear it's not popular with buses users as when I have been there, there have been plenty of people boarding buses from the stop near the Sainsbury's with shopping bags but you will know so more than happy to bow to your knowledge As your here, maybe you can answer some questions: Why is the 79 proposal a good idea when, IIRC, not many people were bothered about the 224 being cut from Wembley to Alperton, Sainsbury's and suffered a frequency cut too. Granted, the 224 didn't serve Stonebridge Park Station but I want to understand if there is anything I'm missing here? I'm led to believe that Alperton, Sainsbury's is oversubscribed with terminating routes (I've heard it mentioned before on here and my own in person observations have matched that). If that's true, why is the 83 being extended to Alperton, Sainsbury's a good thing unless the 83 won't be standing there and instead run around the corner to the Athlon Road site?

There's a development on Beresford Avenue called Grand Union, some of which on the western end has already been built. Transport links are fairly poor, you have the 224, quite a distance to Alperton and not an easy walk to Stonebridge Park. So I imagine they're banking on demand from that development to use that round the corner link to Stonebridge, and for shopping/amenity links to Wembley

The purpose of 79 going to Stonebridge Park via Beresford Avenue is to link the Grand Union development (where new homes are being built) on Beresford Avenue to Wembley and also to Stonebridge Park Station as demand is expected to increase and then the 83 extends to Sainsbury's as the 79s replacement.

If this proposal goes ahead then the 79 will return to Beresford Avenue after a long absence. Extended many years ago when still DMS operated from Alperton to Harlesden(Willesden Junction) opening up new roads to bus operation and improving links.

Extended many years ago when still DMS operated from Alperton to Harlesden(Willesden Junction) opening up new roads to bus operation and improving links. That was the "previous" 79 - the parent route, which ran from Colindale and later from Burnt Oak to Alperton. It was extended to Willesden Junction in April 1983 but the whole route was withdrawn and replaced by an extension of the 226 in September of the following year (the 226 was cut back again to Park Royal in February 1990 when the current 204 and 224 were introduced). The current 79 was originally the 79A and was introduced as a variant of the 79 in 1952. The A suffix was dropped in November 1987 when the route was transferred to London Buslines. www.londonbuses.co.uk/_routes/withdrawn/079-1.html

It was the 79 number that first served Beresford Avenue and if these proposals are advanced will return over this routing.

I think that they should extend the 83 to Stonebridge Park instead. It saves having to extend the 83 to Alperton Sainsbury's and hacking back the 79 to the station and then onto Stonebridge Park. Why meddle with 2 routes when you can meddle with one? Plus those living beyond Wembley Hill will lose their link to Alperton Sainsbury's

Why meddle with 2 routes when you can meddle with one? Plus those living beyond Wembley Hill will lose their link to Alperton Sainsbury's Possibly why they chose the 79 is because it’s likely easier to operate than the 83 & it removes any need to put a double run in on the 83 to serve both Alperton Station & Sainsbury’s especially during heavy traffic. Those living to the north of Wembley have a Sainsbury’s at Kenton via the 223 from Preston Road or 183 from Kingsbury as well as a couple of locals in Wembley.

Withdrawing links to create new ones. Extending the 83 wouldn't withdraw links.

Update 31 July 2023 Today we have published our consultation report following this consultation. We received 256 responses to the consultation and would like to thank everyone that took part. A range of views were expressed in response to consultation. Generally, the feedback was positive with overall support for the proposals. Following careful consideration of the consultation responses, we have decided to proceed with the proposed changes to bus routes 79 and 83 as set out in the consultation. The service changes are expected to take place during 2023. Any changes will be supported with customer information in advance, and with minimal disruption to current bus journeys. haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/21971/widgets/62503/documents/45079
