I'll put this in the Southern section 116 extra carriages have been ordered from Bombardier Derby which will be used on Thameslink routes for couple of years. There was a 2-3 year delay in finalising the new Siemens order which has left a gap (as part of the existing Thameslink fleet is committed to be transferred to newly electrified lines in Lancashire area in 2015), but the new Siemens replacements now wont arrive until 2016-2018 These new trains will in turn be cascaded (not sure where but the newly electrified Welsh valley lines are a possibility) new Bombardier 116 carriages

455 801 is the last 455 due for refurbishment at Eastleigh, I wonder if this MIGHT be named to mark the completion of the work

It has been announced that 27 four car class 387s have been ordered for Gatwick Express Railway Gazette linkThey will replace the 442s in 2016 There have been rumours the 442s will be depowered and used as push pull sets with new locos. I remember seeing the first one on a test train about 1987 whilst it still had the double luggage van and the end coach was a composite, even the tiny dot matrix destination was working. Not sure any went into service with the second luggage compartment (changed part way through construction, with earlier ones altered) or the dot matrix displays in use.

The 442 carriages should be put into HST sets as these are based on Mark 3 coaches. Good to hear that 387's will finally replace those dreadful piggies that replaced the purpose-built Class 460's.

Could be put into HSTs - maybe, with enough work. Should? By 2016 the first of the new IEPs will be less than a year away, in turn freeing up plenty of HST stock from FGW's patch. I don't think the need for extra carriages at that point will be so dire that taking the 442s and modifying the interiors and undercart (the latter containing components dating back to the 1960s in some cases) would be economical - especially to augment a fleet that will be celebrating it's 50th anniversary in 2016 - it's days will certainly be numbered by then.

ScotRail will receive some HST's, says Today's Railways these might be put in the Scotrail sets.

I dont know why they keep doing this, theyve done it 6 times in the past year It was revealed recently that one of Southern's services never ran on time all of last year so maybe that service is the one you use. Several services are being amended however. I think the one youre talking about is the 07:01 Caterham-London Victoria train, which ive heard from others, that it is late all the time, however, i only use this on Friday. The 07:15 Caterham-London Bridge is delayed quite often too, but not all the time. I once got delayed on the 07:01 train as the Tattenham Corner part of the train was late. Both the services above, and all services up until 08:00 have to attach at Purley to another train from Tattenham Corner. If that or the Caterham service is late, it can throw the onward Purley-London Bridge/Victoria part of the journey into jeopardy
