Is there a phone booth nearby for them to use to raise the barriers or do the drivers have to use their mobiles?

Only London United drivers by the looks of it - even though it's an ex NCP garage...! I was watching a report about it this morning on BBC London News and they showed a few CCTV clips of it happening. I managed to identify one bus as YX09HKJ (DE40) on Route 72 ;D (although I must say that all the three that were shown were of London United drivers, on Routes 33, 72 and 419 ). How did you manage to identify the Bus from that blurry photo?

They have been issued with special keys that will lift it for the bus, I suspect that not all drivers have been issued with said keys or those that have have lost or forgotten them. I presume in these instances a code blue for assistance is correct procedure.

They have been issued with special keys that will lift the bus, I suspect that not all drivers have been issued with said keys or those that have have lost or forgotten them. It is supposed to open automatically, the fobs are a manual method and if both methods don't work it is possible to phone. What I can't get my head around is H&F council say they have repaired it 100 times in 6 months (and has cost £50,000 in repairs), now if I spent £500 (average) per repair I would expect it to last more than 1.5 days, the repairers must be laughing all the way to the bank as they seem not (or choose not so they are called out again) to be able to fix it properly.

Yes, however I reckon part of the problem is the drivers are stopping short and/or the sensor is misaligned hence it not lifting correctly...you can bet not EVERY driver at the garages concerned have been issued with a fob to allow them to raise it manually and the phone option would be radio centre com and report. As for the repairs not all would have been the same, I suspect in the instances the pole has been removed and subsequently disappeared would cost more than it being reset to enable it to work.....that said we have had ongoing problems with a gate in my property that raises automatically or via a fob.....I wouldn't be surprised if a similar amount has been spent

What I don't get is that why the pole can be easily removed? Surely the council can make sure it is not that easy to remove the pole.

I think they should just get rid of the pole because its not that good as it dont work half the time and give someone a job to sit there and open a manual gate or do it via CCTV something like that

Then what happens when someone in a car crashes into it - and don't give the response of 'its their fault if they don't see it' - then the barrier could endanger someone's life. Every car park barrier or traffic barrier you see or use us exactly the same, they are fitted with intentionally low strength bolts that will snap very easily. Saves a lot of damage to property and life!

What a very Daily Mailesque opinion! Bollards reguarly trash cars and occasionally write them off - if you google 'rising bollards damage car' then you can find some hilarious videos.
