I think I've identified what's bugging me about the Streetdeck, it's the black part surrounding the blinds area. If it was designed to follow the edges of the front and match the dimensions of the front windscreens then it would be perfect, those front windscreens won't be awkward anymore

The front (especially the lights) remind me of a Class 70 locomotive.

Only if it comes with that LED blind, lol... the blind box is larger on the StreetDeck, it would have to be a 'TfL approved LED blind' like what MBK1 had I think TfL would allow white LEDs, perhaps the switch back to WOBs is a small step towards that possibility. I don't think Leon Daniels was keen on orange LEDs before new technology brought out white ones. And now they can produce the Johnston font... I'm sure we'll adjust to seeing more of the StreetDeck, in TfL all over red, it's not so jarring... BTW the first design on the left is discontinued now, and the Gemini3 will look identical to the StreetDeck. So the next lot of B5LHs will look like this from now on

A short promotional video I stumbled across online... www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJrZeETnEXQInteresting that they are still making the old body design alongside the new one... Still, we will get to see how WS1 (old design) performs on the W3 when it arrives in Wood Green shortly

What made me laugh is that apparently it looks modern.

The designers showed him that monstrosity and he nodded lol.

Yes the "smiley face" design is phased out completely even for Volvo chassis. I think this is a disappointment and Wrightbus are forcing the market to buy the new ghastly design. The introduction of a full micro hybrid version is imminent plus the longer chassis option, if available to TfL spec, would create an attractive option for the London market. The lack of hybrid functionality is likely to impede adoption of the Streetdeck in London so it looks like they've worked round that option. Some long wheelbase micro hybrid Streetdecks could be very attractive as "capacity busters" on busy corridors like the 5, 25 and 86 but it remains to be seen in the possible winners of contracts for those routes would adopt such vehicles. TfL certainly have to do something to get capacity per vehicle up because they can't keep adding and adding more peak / school time capacity - the 5 is getting yet more such journeys added.

Had a ride on vikki (sw1) on sat. Well, yuk yuk yuk! It is awful! It rattles, shakes and it seems the gearbox has come from a leyland national. From the looks point of view its pure gem3 but under the skin its nasty. Maybe i was expecting too much but it seems that wrightbus has taken several steps backward on this. I'm normally a wright devotee but this latest offering has got me thinking that adl's mmc is not all bad. And that is saying something. Come on wrights you are better than this!
