Has it been confirmed the date when the 3 gets extended to Russel Square or it hasnt been approved as of yet? Looks like it won't be until the Elizabeth line services start running from Tottenham Court Road. It also looks like the route will meanwhile be cut back to Trafalgar Square instead of Piccadilly as was intended tfl.gov.uk/modes/buses/permanent-bus-changes?intcmp=47904

This isn't a great terminus to use from the south, as you can only enter the street from Haymarket which is one-way southbound. I guess the original plan was for the last set-down to be on Lower Regent Street, but it seems it will now be on Cockspur Street, hence the description of the terminus has changed to Trafalgar Square. Of course buses will still have to run through Piccadilly Circus on their way to the stand, unless they can use Jermyn Street as a short-cut, which would save a bit of time.

Jermyn Street would indeed save time but there's the issue of where the buses would stand plus the southbound Cockspur Street bus stop would be missed out on 'Palace-bound journeys. The 'short-cut' however would still be ideal if two buses arrive at Trafalgar Square and are both due back out where one could use Jermyn Street to regain headway out of town. I meant using Jermyn Street as a shortcut to get to the Charles II Street stands. I think the procedure will be to empty out on Cockspur Street and run via Lower Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus (or Jermyn Street) and Haymarket to Charles II Street stand. On departure, it should be a left turn out of Charles II Street onto Lower Regent Street, then left again to get to Cockspur Street to pick up. I think this is what the N550 and N551 are supposed to do, although in practice drivers often park all over the place.

Yes apologies as I now realised what you meant as I mistook Pall Mall East as Jermyn Street and I tried to delete my post but my device was too slow. In my time I've seen buses use Jermyn Street although a wide turn was required with standard deckers, obviously even more so now that relevant routes are now LT spec'd.

Camden council has released its response for the Central London Bus Consultation. It seems that the proposals to extend the 3 to Russell Square via Great Russell Street do not align with CC desire to pedestrianise this road. CC also appear very opposed to any further daytime bus routes terminating at Tottenham Court Road and do not appear to support any further bus stands beyond the existing ones.

What a hypocrtical letter from Camden. "We support buses but here is our list of demands to cut bus routes, prevent extensions and ban any extra stands. PS please keep route 390". Pathetic.

I read my two local routes the 3 & 137 - Russell Square was chosen for the 3 due to lack of stand space at Tottenham Court Road which is probably what everyone expected but interestingly, it mentions there will be a significant number of broken trips from south of Herne Hill. It also has declining usage although the N3 during weekdays has seen an increase. The 137 however has seen rising usage bucking the trend of other Central London routes which is quite surprising - there is also a number of significant trips from south of the river broken as a result.

As a daily user of 137, I have observed that it has fewer passengers after Knightsbridge station than it used to. Although, I understand passengers waiting at Hyde Park Corner to prefer the 10, I do not know what happened to the passengers from the South.

Plus people may to have move on and no longer toward central London but maybe further west london area?

I notice that routes 73 & C2 have followed routes 8 & 25 by being withdrawn between Oxford Circus & Victoria. Similarly route 500 linking those points was withdrawn.

The Oxford Circus - Victoria link has been maintained by rerouting the 390 at Marble Arch from Notting Hill Gate to Victoria. The 500 IIRC was withdrawn when the Victoria Line was opened!
