i’m surprised the 710's have been out today I think this was part of the problem (credit to BusesInLondon ) Why are you surprised the 710s were out on Sunday? Do you know the cause of the fault? Was it safety critical and demanded the entire fleet be withdrawn because the doors failed and train needed fitters attention? Chances are the answers to most of those questions are no, so they can keep running thank you, I’ve tolerated a half hourly service for quite long enough, they need to be running in service to find these things and fix them. It’s no different to new bus failing in service, do we demand the grounding of the fleet?

Just came from home on one from Barking. It’s a lovely train. Compared to the 378, there’s nothing to bang your head on sitting down - I’ve lost count of the times I’ve whacked myself on the side destination box. The end of each train is tip up seats with USB charging ports on the end wall of the train. The lighting is interesting as well, it seems to visibly change colour temperature just before departure (the advert screen does say it has dynamic lighting, or words to that effect). It had a minor hiccup ... happily announcing itself as the train to Gospel Oak, then announced ‘Destination of train changed. Train is for Barking’, compete with terminates here messages. Then announced the change back to Gospel Oak! Hey ho. I look forward to them taking over fully on the GOB.

Councillor Loakes (Waltham Forest) has just shared the following on our local Facebook group.

That’s disappointing, to say the least. You couldn’t make it up.

And perhaps they want to avoid any similarity to other route numbers in the area as passengers don’t read properly.

Still radio silence on the introduction timetable for the Class 720 Aventras. The original blurb had them entering service in February 2019, more recently March 2019 on the Southend Victoria line and April on the Cambridge line. More recently than that they've said "Autumn 2019" and now "late 2019. Presumably they've extended the lease on the non-Renatus 321s and are now seeking derogations for their continued service into 2020. Otherwise things could get interesting. As present it doesn't appear that a single 720 has left the factory. But why is this a surprise? Surely until the 710s are fixed, the 720s are in exactly the same boat.

Stats without context though. If you want to use them in any sort of comparison then they need to be baselined against each other, e.g. what’s the mileage against the size of the country? It’s unsurprising that the UK is the lowest here, as we’re the smallest country in that list.

Again as someone who lives not five minutes from Leyton Midland Road and who uses the GOB regularly, do you not think halving the frequency constitutes major disruption?
The problem is the east end supplementary service does absolutely nothing of use. The only new link created by this is a half hourly bus service between Leyton Midland Road and Leytonstone High Road. Every other combination of potential journeys is covered off by existing bus routes.

Why not? The train service is still running after all. It’s classed as a supplementary bus service, not a replacement.

East end replacement is predictably carrying around fresh air. Me and my other half were the only passengers between Leyton Midland Road and Leytonstone, with half a dozen or so having travelled from Walthamstow to Leyton Mid (and all getting off)
Prediction ... nobody will use it so TfL will withdraw it completely due to lack of demand.

And a supplementary bus has been confirmed now, one running at the Gospel Oak end (possibly the same route J as before). At (my) Eastern end, the supplementary service is every 30 minutes between Walthamstow and Leytonstone calling at Leyton Midland Road and Leytonstone High Road. Not super useful.

Are you sure that bus wasn't just 19000? Or 18500 at the time. It was originally delivered with LEDs and would pop up on the 86. I believe it was The Spirit of London before it was branded as such. Well it has to be, there weren't many E400s at that time with Stagecoach and definitely weren't many in east London back then! Spirit of London was called that right from the start, That it was marking the 7 July bombings was the whole point of the vehicle.

Brighton & Hove bought nothing but Tridents in the past for several years, both new with East Lancs and President bodies, and ex-East London via Stagecoach South ones so they’re not turning to ADL for the first time, sorry.

That’s good news. Glad to see B&H have moved off their Streetdeck fixation.
