Interestingly enough, Elizabeth Line rail replacement service UL51 is scheduled to operate during the night of the 31st December (Presumably Stratford - Romford will also operate), no idea why but it is a one off it seems Elizabeth Line is not operating between Paddington and Shenfield/Abbey Wood from 27th December until 2nd January due to engineering work. There is also no service on Great Eastern between Liverpool Street and Ingatestone/Billericay. Elizabeth Line services will only operate between Paddington and Heathrow Airport/Reading during this period, presumably they will use the main line platforms at Paddington.

Delays and service failures are both in the same bracket, delays are still very much a service failure. The only difference is West is a big issue every now and again while the East is a daily poor performance. I literally have to use the line heading east everyday. I use the East service daily myself and do not find any problems. The only delays are freight trains crossing the lines, or trains entering or leaving Ilford depot. This tends to happen between Forest Gate and Stratford. The Ilford depot train delays tends to be in the evening and would be around 3-5 minute loss. The freight train delays are variable, between 2-8 minutes. The East was one of the BEST run services in the country recently Recently was before the core opened, since it connected to Stratford its been very poor.

So is the Elizabeth Line going to run on Boxing Day then? Can I use my ticket on other reasonable routes then?

Great I thought it would be like LUL and run on Boxing Day. It's disappointing. However there is no service anyway from 27th December to 2nd January (except Paddington Main Line to Heathrow Airport/Reading) due to essential works so that probably ruled out a Boxing Day service this year.

It is disappointing, as I cannot get into work, so may have to drive especially on Boxing Day.
The Elizabeth Line lunges towards a National Rail format when it suits and a LUL format when it also suits. It's a truly hybrid railway!!! So wondering if it is going to lunge towards LUL for Boxing Day as LUL operate, where National Rail doesn't.
This would now only apply to Boxing Day 2023, as this year is settled.

Could it not operate Abbey Wood to Padddington?
Never understood why TOC/NR do not operate on Boxing Day, the many years I have worked for LUL we have run a train service, which for Boxing Day we used to just get flat rate, - we didn’t even get a day in lieu. Before my time, we used to run a service Xmas Day in the afternoon.

Can't see it happening the same way London Overground doesn't operate and don't think it should tbh let everyone have two days off .

It’s been nearly a month since they joined up the East side to the core.
From observations the pros are that it is definitely a success as the trains are heaving full mainly being the Abbey Wood / Heathrow / Reading section trains.
The cons is the West Side seems to be doing worst than the East Side riddled with delays or trains bypassing certain stops. This is my own observation. I’ve also noticed the Central Line seems to be less crowded.
I’m looking forward to the Shenfield line going further than Paddington as it will spread the passengers out.

Just did Tottenham Court Road to Stratford in 12 mins. What a game changer! Services seem a bit random with trains every couple of mins to both Abbey Wood and Shenfield.
