I thought the same was quite surprised to see a 315 was still running as recent as the morning of Friday 2nd Dec. Saw it from Platform 3 on my way to work Most of the 315's have been dragged to Newport, Wales for scrap. According to Railforums the last 315's run this coming Friday December 9. These are:- 315837 315853 315856 315857 I'd love it if Greater Anglia acquired one (in BR colours) for the Walton on the Naze branch line with its original jointed track Last train will be the 18:04 Liverpool Street to Gidea Park. I wonder if they'll attempt a fastest speed run like the Underground did with the Metropolitan Line A Stock out of Baker Street years ago? Feel incredibly old having grown up with this rolling stock! Feels sad this part of rail history has gone.

There has been many proposed ones over the months. Even till November. I don't know what you mean by a fastest speed. Used to get some nice runs when the am/pm peak had fast trains on TfL rail. It would be nice if the train could get towed through the central section of the Elizabeth line. I noticed two was parked at Ilford Hill on Tuesday.

It wasn't far from Liverpool Street and where Broadgate business and shopping areas are now. I remember the 315's "PEP" stock cousins, the 313's on the Silverlink Metro before the Overground

It used to happen at Hackney Wick and Dalston Kingsland.

Still Class 313's down on the Western Coastway line, not sure how much longer they've got but nothing seems like imminently replacing them so the opportunity to relieve old times is still there.

I might be thinking of the 101's that used to be on the Greenford branch line perhaps the ones on the Goblin were a different class, and two car, they were numbered L*** (Pub trivia: they shared the same 130hp Leyland engine from the Atlantean bus, these were mounted under the carriage, and had a two speed gearbox - long before the days of diesel generators and traction motors )

According to Wikipedia, the Goblin used class 108 and 115 units initially, and later (from the early 1990s) class 117 and 121 units. The service was notoriously unreliable until the class 150 Sprinter units were introduced in 2000.
Given how busy the line is now, it seems unbelievable that it was proposed for closure in 1963 in the Beeching report. Until 1981 (when the western terminus was switched from St Pancras to Gospel Oak) the service only ran hourly.

I remember the 315's "PEP" stock cousins, the 313's on the Silverlink Metro before the Overground The North London line used class 501s which were 3car slam door trains built 1957. From memory they were withdrawn in 1985 ahead of the asbestos deadline. They were replaced by surplus class 416 2EPB units which had come free due to the service cuts that followed the recession in early 1980s When the Graham Road curve (Hackney) was built the line received dual voltage class 313s surplus from the Kings Cross / Moorgate surburban (frequencies had been cut there too in early 1980s). The new spur was so the residual peak hour trains to Broad Street could divert into next door Liverpool Street. That service only lasted a few years. Some of the slightly older trains similar to 315s are still around Southern still have few 313s on Coastway services Merseyside still have some 507s and 508s The 313s were supposed to have gone by September, but South Eastern couldn’t release class 375/377 to Southern as it is still awaiting 707s (sub leased back to SWR due to lack of 701s) The Mersey fleet of class 507s and 508s are being replaced by the new Stadler built 777s (currently being delivered)
