Would have loved to but I was sent to Earlsfield for work, and had the joys of picking my way home via Streatham, Gipsy Hill, Forest Hill, Ladywell and Blackheath to try and find a traffic-free route back home Though my car was experiencing wheel-slip due to ice on hilly roads in Honor Oak (rather like the 315's used to do in leaf-fall season around Rectory Road)

According to Wikipedia, the Goblin used class 108 and 115 units initially, and later (from the early 1990s) class 117 and 121 units. The service was notoriously unreliable until the class 150 Sprinter units were introduced in 2000. Given how busy the line is now, it seems unbelievable that it was proposed for closure in 1963 in the Beeching report. Until 1981 (when the western terminus was switched from St Pancras to Gospel Oak) the service only ran hourly. They also had a 321 on loan I believe from London Midland but I never saw it. I'm pretty sure the 321 would have been used on the "Abbey Flyer" (Watford Junction - St Albans Abbey line) - it could use either a 313 or a 321.

Please make sure you get in safely man

Class 315s have ended up having something in common with Liz Truss. Gone by Christmas.

Just read on District Dave that Shenfield trains will only run to Heathrow when the line is fully connected up in May 2023. This is probably good news from some comments here about delays in the west affecting the east?

Was thinking, they should have had a 4 car operating on them. After all a lot of them used to run as 4-car, especially out of peaks

This has always been the plan - the November changes was only to connect the Abbey Wood branch to Reading & Heathrow whilst Shenfield services to both Reading & Heathrow wasn’t until next year. Indeed the west has had issues but there has been issues recently in the east as well as documented by Eastlondoner62 several times

Class 315s have ended up having something in common with Liz Truss. Gone by Christmas. Except the 315's lasted forty-or-so years in post, not forty-or-so days!

Arguably apart from maybe Stratford I can't see huge demand from stations between Reading and Hayes & Harlington to the Shenfield branch so having less potential conflicts of trains meeting at points would help keep it reliable.

I just saw a leaflet of Crossrail from 1993. It is strange how it has changed at both ends. The Shenfield and Reaing parts have stayed true to plan. However the short spur to Abbey Wood, seems to have come at a price of the Aylesbury and Chesham spurs. Trains delivered now the 345 are not 100mph capable speed. I am not sure why the Aylesbury part was dropped. I guess the Abbey Wood idea came from the Jubilee line, not sure why the Jubilee was never extended there.
