Will Reading-Abbey Wood be operating on 1st and 2nd January as well? no service between Paddington and Abbey Wood / Shenfield. Reduced services will operate between Paddington, National Rail Station and Reading, Heathrow Terminal 4 and Heathrow Terminal 5. Replacement buses operate between Stratford and Romford Thank you for replying. That concurs with what what I had read before, that the Elizabeth Line will be closed between Paddington and Abbey Wood or Shenfield from 27th December until 2nd January. However - if there is to be an overnight service to and from Abbey Wood during the night of 31st December/1st January, what time will it start and finish?

From the TfL site it seems there is a day time service from Abbey Wood to Paddington every 5 mins. All very confusing as they advised no service over Christmas. Edit: the same is showing for other days apart from the 27th. Is this a mistake or a change of plan?

I assume it will run as the same on the underground. I will try and find out more.

I'm just trying to understand what is and isn't operating as I often help people on non-transport forums with transport-related questions. Like most I was under the impressing the core section was closed over Christmas but the TfL site now shows the following :
Essential engineering works will impact Elizabeth line services over the festive period and travel to Heathrow Airport will be affected as the Elizabeth line will not be running on Boxing Day. There will also be no service between Paddington and Abbey Wood on 27 December with a reduced service in the central section between 28 December 2022 and 2 January 2023 due to vital engineering work.
Between Sunday 25 December 2022 and Monday 2 January 2023, the Elizabeth line will be fully suspended between Whitechapel and Shenfield. London

A strike is planned on the Elizabeth line on Thursday 12 January.
If it goes ahead:
There will be no service on the central section of the Elizabeth line (Paddington-Abbey Wood) There will be a reduced service on the east (Liverpool Street-Shenfield) and west (Paddington-Reading/Heathrow) sections of the line East and west services will run from/to National Rail platforms at Liverpool Street and Paddington
From TfL website. Is it just me who thinks this message is slightly misleading? It doesn't actually make clear that there won't be any service from Paddington to Stratford or vis versa. If I was a tourist I'd probably think I could get a train from Paddington to Stratford just not to Abbey Wood.

It's a shame there is a strike on such a new line especially as the line has been a great help in recent tube strikes.

Whilst a Tube Strike/National Rail strike is a big deal, with people WFHing if they can, how has the Crossrail strike affected travel patterns so far? Does anybody have any observations? Especially how only service on the Central Section is severely affected.

I assume passengers have just reverted back to using the Underground / DLR without much impact apart from longer journey times.
Strikes just don't have the impact they used now!

Yep, the impact these days is minimal. Everyone is already working from home half the time as it is, all this does is push the rest of the people to work from home. As a result the staff that need to be in like nurses don't struggle with any alternative services as they aren't overcrowded like they would be on a strike day.

The worst carnage is actually not on the strike days but the morning after, based on my experience through all the strikes. That’s because everyone tries to get to work that day but services are nowhere near normal till 10-11am. Once took me 2 hours+ to get to work instead of the usual 1 hour!

The Elizabeth Line is getting really busy at weekends now! Was a struggle to find a seat from Custom House heading west today and had standing passengers by the time I left the train.
On the plus side the Central Line is much more bearable heading back east now! Lots of seats available! The Elizabeth Line is super speedy but think if I’m not in a rush the DLR and Underground is much calmer option.

Lack of service on the District/Hammersmith & City lines in East London may have caused some travellers to switch to the Elizabeth Line. Nevertheless it is good to see it busy.
