The Argies are now on the brink of elimination, I didn't see that scoreline coming although take nothing away from Croatia who looked very impressive Although I have to question what the Argentinian keeper was doing to let the first goal in. Still not had a 0-0 yet, hopefully it remains like that for the next week. |

I got the impression that Wily Cabellero, sounds like a cartoon character, was trying to be clever and chip the ball over Rebic but made a complete pigs ear of it, great volley though. |

Argentina's team has been overrated for a number of years now - for whatever reason, they either seem only interested in blooding forward players or their youth system just isn't great full stop. The two main goalkeepers are both second choice at their respective clubs (Romero at Man Utd & Cabellero at Chelsea) and are average at best, their defence has been weak for a long time since the likes of Heinze & Ayala retired and is generally propped up by the inconsistent Otamendi and the midfield just lacks quality throughout with Mascherano the wrong side of 30 and playing in China. As one pundit said, they are just too top heavy and the result didn't really suprise me. They really need to start again otherwise they'll end up like Holland where the talent pool dried up and they've struggled to qualify for recent tournaments - relying solely on the famed Ajax academy was an accident waiting to happen and since thats stopped producing talent, it's no coincidence the Dutch have gone backwards. Well done to Croatia and particularly the midfield maestros of Modric & Rakitic - great goals from Rebic & Modric and that Rakitic free kick deserved to go in - it was pure quality. The big teams will want to avoid them if possible. |

What a theatrical slow-motion dive by Neymar. VAR used correctly there. Definite dive though the referee throughout did seem to have some issue with him as even at times when he was actually fouled, the referee ignored it completely. |

The tournament is being ruined by poor refereeing, Sweden were denied a stonewall penalty in the first half against Germany that would have seen Boateng sent off much earlier than he was, how did both the match referee and the VAR fail to spot it? There was a clear foul that preceded one of the Mexico goals against South Korea and the day before Serbia were denied a stonewall penalty when Mitrovic was clearly fouled by not one but two Swiss defenders, again how did the referee and VAR fail to spot it?

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's ruining the tournament as I've still thoroughly enjoyed watching it myself. I certainly agree with the Sweden penalty shout & the Serbia one (though I'm happy Serbia lost, there fans are a bit of a nasty bunch as they proved in that match) but the South Korea one wasn't as clear cut for me and honestly, they had enough time to get back and defend properly personally. |
