When speaking to other enthusiasts, I have in the past heard the concept of an operator having a flagship route discussed. Commonly I have heard: Metroline - 16 RATP - 9 Stagecoach - 8 Tower Transit - 25 GAL - 12 Abellio - 3 Arriva - 29 Obviously to each operator some routes are more important than others. For instance, have no doubt Abellio would rather lose the U9 than the 68 for example. It is however debatable as to what a given operator's flagship route could be. One could argue Arriva's flagship route is not the 29 but instead the 149. So the question I wanted to ask was, do operators have flagship routes? and what would you argue their flagship routes are? Furthemore, you could argue that operators have more than one flagship route but at that point we are getting into territory of which routes are of higher value to operators than other routes.

I've often thought do garages have what they call flagship routes. If they do some are obvious like RP is the 18, CT is the 38. But what would AFs or FW be?

The 14 is a flagship for AF, harder to judge for FW but at a push the 267. In my mind flasgship would normally denote the route requring the most resources with priority for vehicles and schedules. I would imagine it also pays more for a driver as the expectations are higher.

Many of the routes operated with LTs could be considered "flagship" routes - the 8 at BW, 12 at Q, 15 at RR, 16 at W, 73 at AR and so on. AF I would think the 14 and 22 are the "flagship" routes, FW I don't know but any of the 65, 267 and 281 could be considered.

- NX - Route 36 - I'm sure this brings in the most money for the company, not just the garage alone. - MG - Route 1? Seeing as this serves Central London - PM - Route 63 - Obviously - Q - Route 12 - HT - Route 43 - PB - Route 134? Replacement for the 82 - AR - Route 149 - NP - Route 476 - AD - Route 141 - FW - Route 65 - Highest PVR at the garage? - TV - Route 85
These are my own suggestions.

The flagship route would be high pvr, and high contract value. i.e the 38 is the flagship route for Arriva London.

I would have thought it would be the route with the lowest running numbers? FW have the 281 with single digits. Not so relevant now i think, but in LT/LBL days, most garages had their main routes with the running numbers starting at #1 Eg AV 237 V 91 S 220 FW 281 NB 65 With LU, only FW and V now have running number #1 (281 & 27 respectively)
