Was confirmed here by Londontransport3 that the hydrogen facilities at LI have been removed. The hydrogen for the buses now at PV is delivered in trailers which stay on site to fuel the buses. Once empty the trailer is replaced. Lower cost.

I’ve just read through all 11 pages of this thread.
Not everyone but there seems to be a sentiment of dismissing hydrogen buses because the technology or infrastructure isn’t there yet.
And you are right… but we have to start somewhere with a developing technology.
Think back to the electrocity buses on the 129’s which was what, 15 years ago? I was driving the 286’s at the time and it felt like every day you would pass one with its hazard lights on because it had run out of electricity or something had broken on it and here we are in 2021 with large numbers of fully electric buses.
Yes hydrogen is less efficient to store at the moment. But remember electric cars from a few years ago had less than 100 miles range and now we’re up in the high 300’s.
Production of hydrogen is less green than production of electricity at the moment but again look at electricity production in the past and how much renewables we are using now and that will also happen with hydrogen production but I feel at a much faster pace because clean energy production is so much more important to everyone now. Filling stations are not exactly common but again look at public EV chargers from a few years ago. I drive a fully electric Nissan Leaf as my family car. We’ve done 12k miles in it in the last 18 months and I’ve never run out of electricity or struggled to find a charger.
Hydrogen will come good. But it needs to build up and improve and it will. I get that it’s a bit chicken and egg.
The other thing is we need to realise that the future doesn’t have a single solution. EV will work for some types of vehicle and hydrogen for others, I see a future where both are the mainstream side by side. We just need to work out what works best and in what situations. I personally think that we will see EV for inner city bus services and hydrogen for long distance routes, coaches and trucks.
I currently drive an 18ton truck and being based in Kent and mostly delivering in London a fully electric truck would work for me in terms of range but how much would the weight of the batteries reduce my payload. I regularly go out fully freighted so a reduction in payload would matter. But a 44ton artic driving to Scotland would need to be able to go further and spend less time filling up so probably better suited to hydrogen if we can solve the inefficient storage problem.
But I also think battery technology is going to improve meaning more range from the same size battery.
These are my thoughts on this subject. I have more to say but I can’t keep typing because I need to family.

11 in service on the 7 today so getting close to the full requirement.
Update 7th August. 13 out on the route at the moment according to LVF.

Do they push the hydrogen option being an ADL product, continue making BYD electrics, or make their own electric model.
