I was waiting for a bus in Eastbourne Terrace in Paddington this afternoon. During that time two 205s came and went and nobody boarded them. The 205 was a partial replacement for routes that provided an alternative to the Circle line which had no step free access at the time. The Circle line now has lifts at several stations on the north side and the Elizabeth line provides a frequent service between Paddington and Liverpool Street with step free access. Has the time come to review the route and see if the resources could be better utilised. I wouldn't be surprised if the 205 is cut back to King's Cross or Euston at some point. I hope not. Considering that the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines do engineering works of some kind regularly having the 205 to partially replace it is something that should be appreciated

Most people on the 205 boarding at Paddington board at the other Paddington Station stop and St Mary's Hospital. The Crossrail bus stop is a bit out of the way for most and not very well advertised for those not in the know.

Some changes I thought: 38: Withdrawn between Hackney Central and Clapton Pond, diverted to Homerton Hospital via Millfields replacing route 242. HALF SERVICE ONLY - other journeys terminating at Hackney Central as usual. No changes to route N38. 67: withdrawn between Stamford Hill and Wood Green, and diverted to Meridian Water via route 476 to Northumberland Park and Leaside Road via route 341 Extended from Dalston Junction to Aldgate replacing route 242 73: extended from Stoke Newington to Wood Green via La Rose Lane and Turnpike Lane replacing route 67 No changes to N73 242: withdrawn, replaced by changes to 38 and 67 N242: withdrawn and replaced by new N149 476: withdrawn, replaced by changes to 67 and 73 N149: New route introduced between Edmonton Green and Tottenham Court Road - replacing existing route 149 up to Monument where it runs via Cannon Street to Bank and replaces existing route N242 to TCR. W3: Extended to Meridian Water via Leaside Road Reasons: 38/242 changes: The 242 is quite a short nip route and could easily be replaced with changes to other existing routes and perhaps reduce the overbussing in the Hackney and Hoxton areas - usually only busy between Dalston and Homerton where routes such as the 38 carries air 67/242 changes: The 67’s proposal to Meridian Water up to Aldgate would be much more useful and connecting and reliable, connecting Aldgate, Hoxton and Haggerston with Meridian Water (Drumsheds), Tottenham and Seven Sisters. I would propose perhaps a 24 hour service on Fri/Sat nights. The 242’s links at Aldgate to Haggerston and Hackney are unpopular as there are other alternatives already. 67/73/476 changes; Reasons for withdrawing the 476 is the overbussing and lack of demand. Reasons for swapping the 67/476(73) ends is that the 73/341 are very similar routes and for the 67/341/W3 to be the connecting routes at Meridian Water, it improves reliability for both the 67/73 and also gives new links to Hoxton, Haggerston and Aldgate instead of two major routes to Angel and the West End areas. N149/N242 changes: Not much to say other than the need for a Dalston-TCR route via the City which could be done in the shape of the 149 as it serves a dominant section of the N242 route already. For people to Hackney and nearby areas, routes such ar the N8/N38/N55/N253 are also available. Route 67 would almost match its pre-1979 routing, which was then Stamford Hill - Aldgate East. It was diverted to Aldgate in 1981.

In relation with Route 205 removing it from Marylebone Station, Melcombe Place was a good move the amount of traffic at peak times trying to get out of the there is a nightmare.

(The stop was well used by those waiting for other routes.) Other routes parallel the 205 along the way. Times change.

I think the 205's links here need to be maintained, but could consider reducing the number of routes on the Marylebone Road corridor. My suggestion would be to create a new route replacing part of both the 18 and 205. The 18 would be rerouted at Edgware Road to terminate at Marble Arch - which I think would be a more useful destination for the Harrow Road corridor - and the 205 cut back to Euston. Then the new route could run from Kings Cross to Paddington via the 205, then up to Royal Oak and following the 18 towards Kensal Green, turning off to Ladbroke Grove Sainsburys, and through the Kensal Canalside redevelopment to reach Old Oak Common, and terminating somewhere in the Park Royal area. Or an alternative option with fewer changes, could be to just reroute the 27 at Warren Street, to terminate at Kings Cross (replacing the 205 between KX and Paddington) - with the 205 cut back to Euston. Other routes like the 88 and 274 would maintain the 27's links to/from Camden Town.

It would just make the 232 even more prone to congestion by running it to Wembley Central

It would just make the 232 even more prone to congestion by running it to Wembley Central If the 232 is pulled back to Brent Cross West (with conversion to DD operation), as well as the 112 to Brent Cross Shopping Centre, maybe a new route running between Wembley Central & North Finchley could work? Would run via 92 to Brent Park Tesco, 232 to Brent Cross Shopping Centre & 112 to North Finchley? Should just about make it reliable enough to run while creating some useful links.

As a local this is quite scary - Euston to Marylebone Road has a perfect group PVR IMO and all the 18, 30, 205 are needed. The 27 is also needed as well as the 390. The only reduction Id say is from the 73. What could be better is a Superloop route that I have thought would be a good idea - lets call it a Metroloop from King’s Cross to let’s say Wembley Park serving the mainline stops and some major, Euston, Baker Street, Marylebone, Paddington and up the Flyover on Westway and Western Avenue to call at Hanger Lane and then Wembley. This will cut some slack off the 18/36 at least and anyone doing the popular journey Kings Cross-Paddington off the 205 or some who use the 30 and walk.

The route can also be extended to Old Oak Common Station in the future. I think these ideas are fairly sensible, though I wouldn't reduce the 283 as of yet being it's a busy route itself. What you could perhaps do is create short workings by extending 3bph north to Central Middlesex Hospital where the 228 previously used to run at. In the long term there may be a case to add additional capacity if the Old Oak Common developments advance. I personally think TfL will eventually bin the 228 from it's recent reduction to half hourly, essentially forcing the service to run down and will soon justify replacing the route with existing services.
