SL2: Extended from North Woolwich to London City Airport. To give LCY a bus service to Barking, Ilford and Walthamstow and possible demand increase after the LCY expansion.

Why when there is the 473 and 474 already from North Woolwich! A third route along this section is excessive. I doubt many airport passengers would want a bus towards Barking.

Stand space at London City Airport would be an issue to start off with as there isn't really much space within the Airport forecourt to add a stand for any terminating route unless the Airport is willing to change the whole forecourt design once again after they made the changes a few years back.

There is actually space there for around two buses as the old stop from before the changes were implemented still has the old lay-by there. You'd need the bus to cross over oncoming traffic but it's going to be a non-issue as there's no way for traffic to build up on that section.

Walthamstow Bus Changes: SL1: North Finchley - Ilford (Withdrawn between Crooked Billed Roundabout and Walthamstow Bus Station, extended to Ilford via North Circular Road) SL2: London City Airport - Ilford (Withdrawn between Ilford and Walthamstow Bus Station, extended to London City Airport to improve reliability) New Normal Route: Ilford - Walthamstow, St James Street (via SL2’s route between Ilford and Walthamstow Bus Station)

Not really sure why City Airport has suddenly come up again for the SL2! I remeber this happened a few months after the route started. I really don't think it is needed especially with the 473,474 and 129 (Next year) stopping here. City Airport is not Heathrow and the demand is nothing on that scale for public transport here. We need to be careful routing so many buses into one area. Some of the recent changes have not worked as well as TfL had expected. The 241 is lightly used to Royal Wharf, the 474 is again lightly used from the airport over the new section, the 129 will most likely be lightly used as its another route into Beckton.

The 241 is lightly used to Royal Wharf, the 474 is again lightly used from the airport over the new section, the 129 will most likely be lightly used as its another route into Beckton. What basis are you using to say that the recent changes have not worked out as expected? I crunched a few of the numbers from before and after the changes on the 474. Before the change the average rider per mile was 2.76, but following the change it's 3.25. This is not a small change, it's actually a huge change. Usage on the route has gone from 2.8M to 3.3M so once again a resounding change on the route. I'm sure TfL quite possible view the 474 change as a huge success as a result and it might be what they're basing their further changes on. As for the 241, you can't measure its success on by what you view on the route as it's an extension to specifically serve people in a development that's taking place. Certain numbers of houses legally can't be built in some cases until adequate transport provision is already there, routes like the 335 are a prime example where the routes are extremely useful to the few people it serves but you'll hardly ever see buses leaving Kidbrooke standing loads. The intention of the extension is to just ensure people there have a travel link and the 241 provides it for them, as long as people in the development are using the 241 for that purpose it will also be classed as a success. The reason City airport keeps coming up again for the SL2 is because it effectively terminates in the middle of nowhere, what's actually wrong with routing it to City Airport when there is the available stand space there and it would hardly add any time on as it would be done non-stop?

Why wouldn't airport passengers want a bus to Barking? It always seemed very weird the SL2 stopped very short of an airport that would only take an extra few minutes. Would have been good to have required LCY to fund it (and possibly future other services) as part of their expansion plans... helps with wider social benefits of expansion (and would help counteract some of the perceived negatives of increasing the capacity caps) as it would expand catchment area for employment.

Some restructuring ideas to support route 220 along the Putney - Hammersmith corridor
Route 430 rerouted at Lillie Road, would go along Fulham Palace Road to terminate at Hammersmith Bus Station - would stand in the Upper Bus Station where route 218 currently stands. Route 218 would stand in the Lower Bus Station again. Route 190 extended from West Brompton Station to South Kensington station replacing route 430 on that section. It would be converted to a permanent full double deck operation.
Benefits; In this scheme, it would create new links between Chiswick, Richmond and South Kensington through bus travel in terms of the route 190 extension. Roehampton is connected to Hammersmith in the daytime once again with route 430 reroute and will also support route 220 in the process. Reduces duplication between routes 74 and 430

495: Route no longer introduced. U5: Extended from Hayes & Harlington to Southall (Merrick Road) via the 495 routing. PVR increased to 15, and the 381/U5 allocations swap permanently (5 more electrics to be ordered for 381.) 427: Re-extended to Acton, High Street. Can stand at Ealing Broadway too if it isn't needed at Acton. 195: Converted to DDs. I personally find it criminal that this route has not been decked with the massive overcrowding on the route. U7: Extended to Southall, Merrick Road via the current 427. Double run at Hayes Sainsbury's and frequency increased to every 15 mins.

Reduces duplication between routes 74 and 430 I personally really like this. It would also, although not the intention, create a saving for TfL as 74/430 duplication is removed as you mentioned. 190 using double decks is something that is needed, albeit not desperately, and will certainly be beneficial in the absence of routes 33 and 419 from Richmond to Hammersmith (as the current decking is). I wonder if it would then be viable to merge the 72 and 430?

I'm not sure how well used the 427 would be if it were re-extended to Acton or even Ealing, travel patterns have likely changed permanently. I think the rest is amazing though. Could the U7 be extended to Toplocks to take over that proposed section of the 495?

Could the U7 be extended to Toplocks to take over that proposed section of the 495? That's a good shout, but wouldn't the U7 be too long in that form? Reliability could also decrease due to the horrific traffic in Southall. Where is the E5 going to terminate when the 495 is introduced? Merrick Road doesn't have loads of stand space either so maybe the 427 can terminate at Southall Waterside?
