Mostly turned the Croydon routes into what they are today. 60 was withdrawn between Streatham Common and Clapham Common and extended from TC to Old Coulsdon 166 converted to SD and become West Croydon to Chipstead Valley/Epsom Hosp 466 was introduced between Shirley Inn and Caterham on the Hill replacing part of the 166 and withdrawn 400 410 replaced the 400 between Wallington and Croydon then the 412 between Croydon and Norwood Junction. Some changes had to wait for the tramlink to open such as the 54 being cutback to Elmers End and the 130 heavily reduced in freq and the X30 withdrawn. There were more changes I'm sure but this is what I mostly remember. The 109 was shortened around this time but more in connection with the Jubilee line. The 109 was cut back from Purley to Croydon in the 1998 changes; I think this was because the restructured 60 now provided the link between Purley / South Croydon and the Mayday Hospital so the 109 was no longer deemed necessary over this section. The 109 was then cut back from Trafalgar Square to Brixton as part of the Jubilee Line extension changes. Yes I forgot the 109 was cut back twice. Would definitely hsve been a journey I would have liked to have done from Croydon to TSQ but I was just too young. That was quite a loss really loosing 5 bph between Purley and Brixton. No wonder the 466 has kept needing increases since.

No lift, footbridge or walk over the road bridge which has steep inclines. That’s terrible. There has been talk of a lift but it's not happened as yet, I'm surprised disability groups haven't made more noise about the situation.

Has the withdrawal of the 54 between Elmers End and Croydon been a mistake? I find it odd that there is no direct bus service between Beckenham High Street and Croydon, obviously TfL try to encourage use of Tramlink but not helpful that the trams don’t reach Beckenham High Street. I don’t count the 367 as direct. Extending the 289 from Elmers End to Beckenham Junction Station would be useful. I thought the 54 and 353 changes were mistakes although the reduction of bus services between Croydon and New Addington was inevitable. The 289 did go to Beckenham Junction in addition to the 54 for a few years in the late 70s/early 80s. Bus/tram interchange at Elmers End is awful for anybody with mobility problems. 289 1st March 1980289 4th October 198131st July 1982289 4th September 1982before withdrawn between Elmers End Green and Beckenham Jct 289 27th April 1985

It definitely left the 50 at little bit sorry in 1998 on such a short route stopping just short of Streatham.

I think the Purley section of the 109 was replaced by the 60 being extended to Old Coulsdon. Not quite as the 50 was pulled back to South Croydon. The 60 sort of replaced both the 50 and 109. The 60 replaced the 50 between South Croydon and Old Coulsdon, and the 109 between South Croydon and Purley.

The 60 replaced the 50 between South Croydon and Old Coulsdon, and the 109 between South Croydon and Purley. So that did leave a reduction from having both the 50 and 109 between Swan & Sugar Loaf and Purley.

Saw this posted on a local Facebook group. Kenley's councillors have received an update from TfL as to why the 434 isn't serving the top of Kenley via Higher Drive and they have confirmed that the 434 will serve Higher Drive in due course. The reason why it's being diverted away for the time being is due to "line of sight issues which are being addressed" - as I thought really, and driving down Higher Drive today I did notice parking suspension cones have been put up indicating more work is about to take place. TfL also mentioned that they will update their website to make it clear that the 434 change around Kenley is temporary. www.croydonconservatives.com/news/changes-bus-routes-kenley?fbclid=IwAR0CBzOH81IHjr9dWiz5qimnz_DyHQq_5a2HPpKY_m55zTZtM23C89KNsVsJust an update re this, an 8.9m E200 has failed the route test on multiple occasions. There are two issues regarding curvature and width of the roads, one is the left turn from Park Road onto Hayes Lane and the other are the turns on Wattendon Road. Another issue is the lack of accessibility for Hail & Ride on Hayes Lane. This issue can be read into with more detail by downloading the attached PDF extracted from an FOI which I did not submit. No solution has been made despite this test happening a few weeks back

The issues with the turns on Wattendon Road can easily be solved by some double yellow lines so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

"having just made the turn from Park Road onto Hayes Lane (towards Whyteleafe). The driver has remained as close to the kerb as possible, but still cannot leave enough room for a vehicle to proceed in the opposite direction."
"The Hayes Lane / Park Road junction is currently traversed as part of route 434’s normal line of route, so a risk assessment may be necessary, as based on the findings of this test, this junction is not suitable for bus use."

Well I'm certainly surprised the 439's SEes passed a route test then. Hopefully the issues are resolved as both the old and new 434 routes through Kenley could end up unserved if TfL deem the turn too dangerous for bus use.

Having done the 439 I’m amazed 9.7m vehicles are allowed on it, some parts of the route are far too tight for it and we had quite a few close shaves with other cars
