Some very sad news from Turkey...

From the BBC: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64554257What punishments are available? If City are found guilty of rule breaches, the commission can impose punishments ranging from a fine and points deductions to expulsion from the Premier League. "The potential tariffs are limitless," Maguire said. "It could be anything from 'don't do it again', to a fine, to a points deduction, to stripping Man City of titles, to even expelling them from the Premier League." Most likely it will be one of the first two, although possibly a points deduction could take place it seems unlikely, and unfortunately I think the last two options are very unimaginable Points deduction and stripping them of titles is what I’d personally like to see. A fine or relegation is pointless - the former for obvious reasons but the latter because they’ll just bounce back up like Juventus. Even if they get off which they’ll probably will, we all know that they’ve done this so I laugh when they say, “we look forward to clearing our name once and for all” because they weren’t cleared last time - they got off on a time barring technicality so their name will never be cleared and FFP will sadly be dead as a result

In other news I'm just glad Christian Atsu has been rescued from the mayhem in Turkey. Prayers goes out to those affected by this matter at this time. There still seems to be some uncertainty as to his whereabouts...

Interesting results for both North London teams! Are Arsenal's grip on the title slipping, now 2 winless games in a row, I think the title race has opened up a bit. We'll see how City will play tomorrow but this could put Arsenal under pressure as they'll only be 3 points behind Arsenal if they do win tomorrow
Meanwhile Tottenham have had a rough day, top 4 could be slipping away from them too

Leicester's second and third goals were so close together, they were like buses on the 329. It could have been 5-1 had Leicester not fallen victim to VAR. I know Conte's been through tough times with health and bereavement, but it's apparent the squad have downed tools. Spurs should be twinned with Golders Green bus station, the way coaches pass through and don't stay long

Looks like normal service has resumed as City return to the top of the table. Don't want the Prem to become as predictable as NFL or Scottish football with the same powerful teams winning each season I'll take some solace in knowing Spurs are the only North London team to beat them at home Let's see if Conte will get sacked if Spurs slip up against the Hammers on Sunday. Don't really want a "starstruck" Conte leading us out against Milan at home next month

Yesterday's result really showed why we're really lacking in depth. I'm not trying to hear anyone tell me "We wasn't trying to compete this season, top 4 was the aim" if that was the [redacted] case then we should have been sitting around 3rd or 4th place with a healthy amount of points to ensure we secure it not sitting top of the league for a long length of time and we don't win it.
The reason why a lot of fans are groaning and rightly upset at the moment is just when you think they've turned a corner they then come and produce nonsense like this. I want to see my team win and do good. Why should I be subjected to watch a bad performance but still come and say oh you played good but its a shame you didn't get any points. That's not cutting it for me. This team has a habit of messing up on crucial matches but winning pointless matches. In fact I can even give a list of examples about this.
In the 2007/08 season we were on course on possibly winning the Premier League that season but what happened in February 2008 Eduardo got injured at St Andrews, thus shattering the dreams of bringing the title to North London. With Gallas infamous actions of sitting on the pitch at the end of the game. United ended up winning the league that season but by thin margins.
In the 2010/11 season again we were doing pretty decent in that season but once again what happened. We lost to Birmingham City in the league cup thanks to Koscielny and Szcezny in February 2011. That shattered the confidence in players and what happened we only ended up winning two matches from that point until the end of the season. The Stoke loss at the Britannia Stadium was the final nail in the coffin.
In the 2013/14 season we started the season pretty bad with a Villa loss at home which then prompted Wenger to buy Ozil but once again in that season we ended up losing heavy to a few top sides. Notably 5-1 at Anfield, 6-3 at Eastlands, 1-0 against a Moyes united at Old Trafford and the worst of it was 6-0 at Wengers 1000th game at Stamford Bridge. We ended up 4th on the table at the end of that season but won the fa cup in the process thus ending a 9 year trophy drought.
In the 2015/16 season all the top sides in the league performed woefully that season which allowed Leicester to pull a absolute stunner of a 5000/1 odds win. Going through some of the losses in that season where if we had won would have made the difference. The loss against West Brom, the loss against Southampton on boxing day, the loss against Swansea at home and the draw against Crystal Palace at home. There's more matches I could have added but those games I mentioned were games that had we won them then we would have won the league as Leicester were ten points ahead of us.
In the 2016/17 season this truly exposed how bad things were when Tottenham after 22 years dethroned Arsenal in the top four by finishing above them and Arsenal missing out on the champions league spot by one point against Liverpool and again, losses against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, West Brom at the hawthorns, Liverpool both home and away and Chelsea at the Bridge made that season a tough season for us however we won another fa cup trophy that season taking us to 13 fa cups.
In the 2017/18 season was possibly one of the worst seasons I've experienced in my 25 plus years of supporting Arsenal. Only 4 away wins that season (Ironically that was the last season we beat Everton at Goodison Park). We finished 6th and we got eliminated at the semi finals against a resilient Athletico Madrid side (Ironically Thomas Partey was on that team) which would have allowed us to get back into the Champions league via the europa league.
In the 2018/19 season it has to be up there with one of the most painful seasons in recent times as we not only missed out on champions league in that season but we had more than one opportunity to get into it. We had the chance to make the champions league via the league and we arguably on paper had the easier run to make top 4 but what happened. Loss to Everton away, loss to Crystal Palace at home, loss to Wolves and Leicester away and a draw against Brighton at home. We were then given a second chance via the europa league where we got dismantled by our former player Olivier Giroud in Baku with a 4-1 scoreline against a Chelsea side that already made top 4 so they didn't even need to win the trophy but they well and truly bolted the door shut for us thus starting the demise of Emery.
In the 2019/20 season we ended up finishing 8th after a woeful amount of results in that season to the point we were getting nicknamed "Draw FC" with the amount of "the points are shared" headlines associated with our club on our results. Arteta comes in and wins us the fa cup taking it to 14 albeit I think it was a fluke how he won that and I will be one of the few that will say I didn't want him to win the fa cup that season simply because he's a new manager and I didn't want him to get thrown into the deep end real quickly as I felt as though that some fans will be thinking if he can win the fa cup then he should start thinking about winning the league the next season afterwards. I wanted him to take his time and gradually get there because as other teams have shown its uneasy the head that wears the crown to maintain that status.
In the 2020/21 season we once again finished 8th with Arteta in charge, shocking results that season meant various teams doing the double over us I.e Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton, Wolves and Aston Villa. We also get eliminated by Unai Emery yellow submarines in the Europa league. I was somewhat in mixed views about that as he was vindicated for the way he was treated at Arsenal in the few seasons before that. Finishing 8th with no fa cup win to save Arsenal meant that going into the 2021/22 season ensured that there would be no European football for them that season.
In the 2021/22 season started off very badly, losses against Brentford. Chelsea and Manchester City made life hard for us as we were at the bottom, 9 points down with 9 goals conceded. We gave ourselves a fighting chance until April came and it somewhat fell apart at the first half of that month. Losses against Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton put us in a hard position but we revived hope by beating Chelsea and Manchester United and West Ham and Leeds to keep us going. Now this is where it gets interesting as we were originally meant to play spurs in January but due to the covid cases going around it got rescheduled in May. We ended up losing ourselves in that match and got a player sent off and shot ourselves in the foot. Newcastle then completed the job by a man who we were targeting in the January window scoring the hammer blow. Thus ending our chances of making top 4 and perhaps finishing above spurs after a 5 year exile from the champions league. We then went on to beat Everton in a pointless march when the damage was done.
And now this season we have continued that trend again with these results. The refs are [redacted] [redacted] [redacted]. Where do we honestly go from here because we have to do better.

And now for a different opinion - finishing in the top 4 has always been the priority not once this season and that’s why I’ve not bothered to entertain this talk of winning the title because of what exactly has happened. We were ahead of schedule in terms of trying to compete and the last three games (well two of them because once again, we were cheated by incompetent refs against Brentford) shows we aren’t quite there yet - Rome wasn’t built in a day. This season is the first time in many a season I can remember where I’ve enjoyed watching my team, even in the defeat against Man Utd where we played them off the park and the ref doing their incompetence again at Old Trafford with my manager going for a win rather than merely shutting up shop - winning the title wasn’t meant to be but the pressure is off us now so hopefully we can secure 2nd and continue improving the squad in the summer - there really is more to be positive about than negative

There was one season recently I think it was 2 years ago where it was very close between City and Liverpool and City won the title unfortunately, but usually they're miles ahead of the rest They should know that the ref will sometimes make dubious decisions so they need to try and score as many goals for themselves to help themselves. And as I've been saying it's getting tiring hearing some fans and even some of my own friends who support arsenal saying we're not competing for the title this season. If that was the case then we should have been aiming for the 3rd or 4th spot. To be sitting at the top of the league for as long as we have and not win it is failure in my eyes because if it was a case you wasn't in a position to win it and you didn't win it then it's not as bad but if you're in a position to win it and you don't then that's bad and having to explain this to people and they still don't understand that concept irritates me. The reason why a lot of fans are upset right now is because they know when Arsenal lose a game they go through a downward spiral and then they have to play catch up in which it can be costly as they end up missing out and considering who they're up against it would hurt more as City are known to go on a big run. To make things even worse we have less fixtures than City so we should be taking advantage of it.
