tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/buses-performance-dataTFL has published its bus service data usage for the 2020/2021 period Top 10 Busiest Routes : 1. Route 18 : 6,093,490 2. Route 149 : 6,065,571 3. Route 29 : 5,303,063 4 .Route 279 : 5,093,235 5. Route 5 : 5,070,960 6. Route 86 : 4,961,357 7. Route 25 : 4,943,814 8. Route 207 : 4,876,443 9. Route 109 : 4,573,380 10. Route 36 : 4,545,304 Top 10 Busiest Night Routes : 1. Route N15 : 412,655 2. Route N29 : 340,491 3. Route N18 : 331,279 4. Route N207 : 315, 373 5. Route N279 : 312,158 6. Route N25 : 285, 834 7. Route N9 : 274, 914 8. Route N8 : 221,710 9. Route N98 : 197, 502 10. Route N155 : 186,188 ( Let me know if errors were made ) Only a few years ago, the 109 was behind the 12, 36 & 53 in terms of usage and now it's finally gone above the 36 making it South London's (yes I'm including South East & West) busiest route As for the top 30, the 35 looks to have risen as a result of the 40 being diverted away as evergreenadam mentioned whilst the 133 is still a strong link to the City given it's the most direct route from Brixton & Streatham (you wouldn't board a 35 at Brixton bound for the City) As for single deck routes, my the 450 has come a long way from it's humble beginnings to now a top 10 busy single decker route - not only that but it's the only one in the top 10 that uses 9.5m vehicles as it's regular allocation. The other newcomer, the 366, isn't a shock and it makes sense to be within the top 10.

Route 185 has probably benefitted from the re-routing of the 436 to Battersea Park, so is supporting the 36 along the Camberwell to Victoria corridor, but from my experience the 185 is always busy along the whole route. Camberwell Green to Forest Hill seems to be a pinch point, which deserves it's every 8 minute service on weekdays and Saturdays.

So N9 is in top 10 busiest night routes, is rammed every night, and yet they still cut the frequency I have to admit, every 30 minutes on weeknights actually seems sufficient for the N9 (at the moment). It’s Friday and Saturday nights that should be every 15 minutes between Aldwych and Hounslow.

Did a quick calculation to see what routes carry the most amount of people per mile. These are the routes that are the most susceptible to overcrowd as on average a large amount of people board buses at each stop.
1.330: 4.3 2. 238: 4.2 3. 69: 3.91 4. 104: 3.90 5. 58: 3.8 6. 41: 3.76 7. 149: 3.74 8. 109: 3.71 9. 29: 3.46 10. 279: 3.4
The top 5 routes all serve Newham, showing how extremely intensively used buses are in that borough. The W7 used to always lead this list but has dropped to 14th place.
11. 18 12. 25 13. 35 14. W7 15. 32 16. 67 17. 147 18. 158 19. 98 20. 257 21. EL1 22. 115 23. 207 24. 144 25. 349 26. 250 27. 259 28. 220 29. 141 30. 243
