That's a good point and I wonder whether rerouting the 53 to Vauxhall or even Battersea Power Station would be beneficial for SE/SW London travel? I don’t think rerouting the 53 along Kennington Lane would be any good, especially as it would no longer serve St Thomas’, which several GP’s around the areas it serves refers patients to. There may be merit in extending it from Lambeth North to Lambeth Palace or Vauxhall, however via Waterloo and Albert Embankment instead. The 53's frequency is overkill for Kennington Lane, 196 copes fine at every 12 at present when the 53 is every 8 minutes - for me personally, the 53 should reach Lambeth Palace to better serve the hospital or head back across the water to Whitehall.

I have to agree with that At the time I did think it may have been better to simply cut the 322 to Brixton to allow it focus on its Railton Road and Rosendale sections where its the only route. Thinking about it's current terrible reliability that would have been a better decision, then again 355 in only one direction along Landor Road probably left much to be desired, even created a neat link to Brixton gtom Kings Avenue and Poynders Road.

Yes thou I guess the 355 would have been able to run in both sections along Landor Road now as I think the road layout changed at Clapham North to allow the 322 to turn direction onto Clapham High Street. It was a bit of an anonolomy having the 355 only serving Stockwell in the southbound direction meaning the 155 had to cope with SDs alone on the points south of Clapham Common to Stockwell northbound

The 53 doesn't quite serve the hospital now and Lower Marsh isn't an ideal terminus, the only thing in it's favour is a same stop interchange with the 12,148 and 159 as well as the 453 over Westminster Bridge.

The layout at Clapham North was cited as the reason for this. I wonder if it's the left turn from Landor Road into Bedford Road that was the problem? I don't doubt that it's doable in practice with a 10.3m bus but that doesn't mean it will pass an official route test.

Unless Landor Road itself could have issues with longer buses trying to pass each other.

That could be it in all fairness as the double decker I was on didn't come from Landor Road but from Clapham Road

Could the 53 at least just drop off and pick up at its current stand by County Hall? No need, there is plenty of room at Lambeth Palace which is where the 53 has stood before when it couldn’t reach Whitehall. Last stop could be the stop opposite the hospital on Lambeth Palace Road and then stand by the roundabout at Lambeth Road
