Interesting. I have always wondered if there was a mismatch of frequencies required at the different ends of the 493. I guess demand is much higher on the Wimbledon to Tooting section. If Sadiq Khan’s Richmond to Wimbledon Superloop route is introduced then I imagine there will be accompanying changes to the 493 which might allow for a higher frequency at the Tooting end. Glad that the 493 has been a success story in terms of attracting passengers. Lots of new residential development along Plough Lane too. The 493 is one of those orbital routes that really needs tidying up and also more suitable vehicles. Hopefully the Wimbledon-Richmond Superloop will go some way to that. I actually wonder if it'd be better to chop it at Roehampton in that instance and send it to Danebury Avenue or Bessborough Road and then recycle the PVR savings into increasing it to 6bph. Most longer-distance trips would still be catered for. That would be my thinking too.

I was thinking Barnes Common under the impression that the Superloop will bypass Southfields and it will keep the link to the university and hospital for the area, however I support any improvement to the 493s reliability and frequency as well as a direct Wimbledon-Richmond via Roehampton route. The Superloop gets a lot of slack but I am a huge fan of that route and hopefully it ends up happening.

That’s true about the direct link link between Southfields to Queen Mary’s Hospital and Roehampton University being broken, I wonder how many journeys are made between the two? Is there enough space available on the Danebury Avenue stand for a 6bph route? If Hammersmith Bridge were open, I would be tempted to send the 493 to Hammersmith as Barnes Common is quite an isolated place to terminate.

Although I like the 436 providing links from Clapham & Brixton to Lewisham, it has a lower frequency than the 35 & the Clapham/Brixton corridor is notorious for capacity problems. I would definitely increase the 37’s frequency though tbh it needs it regardless. There was talk of extending the 417 from Common to Clapham Junction but nothing came of it apart from including Clapham Common on the via points of the 417. Clapham Junction is the real missing link from the Clapham Park area, there is nothing to attract drivers on the South Circular out of their cars. The bus routes all run north-south with no orbital options south of Acre Lane.

Barnes Common isn’t really relevant but it’s about the university and hospital more than anything, I’d assume the latter is a used link due to the proximity. I’m not too sure about stand space, and I think the 493 would be better off avoiding Hammersmith or the main benefit of cutting it back (reliability) risks becoming redundant, and the 72 should be back in that instance anyway.

The bus routes all run north-south with no orbital options south of Acre Lane. The best way to achieve that IMO would be by extending the 45 via the A205, Clapham South, Nightingale Lane, Bolingbroke Grove, Strath Terrace and Clapham Junction. This keeps it away from The Avenue & Clapham Common West Side which can be extremely congested at times and gives the Wandsworth Common area some new links in the process

I'm far from local, but considering the H13 starts there and given the date of the video, I'd assume it was a simple rush for the bus after a hot day. The video was posted on Monday May 13th, the day before had temperatures of 23 degrees. If everybody at the Lido left (got kicked out) at the same time on a hot day, of course you'll get a mini rush. What's the point in increasing the H13's frequency for a rather isolated passenger surge like this? Something tells me everyone got onto the bus and some people are just impatient when it comes to boarding.

I'm not sure if this would be considered an update or not, but I've always found it weird that the 163/164 never became fully DD, whilst we would see strays on them pre-electrics, wouldn't LG have been smarter to try to take the opportunity to deck them fully with new electrics? the 164 can get quite busy throughout the day and would also be a better aid if the trams went out of strike (which nowadays seems to be happening every other day..).

Not really, I don’t think either really warrant double deckers. They are busy but neither is bursting at the seams unlike other routes in the area. It would be useful to have more decker workings now that AL has a decent number of Ee but it isn’t essential.

That's fair, though I think atleast 2 or so doubles on at the same time (preferably, one starts at Wimbledon and the other at Sutton Station on a similar time) would be useful as there's at least a bulwark for the school rushes and people coming to and from work via the underground at Morden & Wimbledon.

I’d agree if there wasn’t multiple options. The 163/164 tend to arrive at the same time in Wimbledon and in Morden the 164 isn’t the busiest option. The 80 scoops up far more punters at the same stop than the 164 does. Even towards Sutton there are three other routes to choose from in Morden.

Odd, whenever I get on the 164's throughout the day they're usually packed (which is why I much prefer when some of the 413's E200EVs sneak onto it and the 163, the longer length is able to handle things far better than the smaller length of the current Future Spec E200EV) It's a shame more of them weren't ordered for the 163/164 imo, they are certainly routes that need long singles if they aren't having doubles to aid them.

Huh, for some reason the 413's feels longer than the 163/164's, probably some misremembering on my end from using the S2 too much lol, mb.
