ianVisits has run with this story too. The consultants will conduct feasability studies for five packages of tunneling works. This is a reminder that the project has not been cancelled, merely delayed; and the consultations will bring the project closer to being shovel-ready when the funding can be found. The route was safeguarded in March 2021 and developments along the route have to take the future line into account. www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/tfl-awards-bakerloo-line-extension-consultancy-contract-59353/

I think the 72 stock should be converted to Solar Panel energy and they should make the extension run above ground along the Old Kent Road and then via the 436 bus route from New Cross to Lewisham then connect with the SE lines would be more efficient and cheaper and preserve the stock for another 50 years 😂😂 in all seriousness honestly as the Bakerloo doesn't serve The City is there really demand for an extension to the Hayes Line wouldn't this be a rather large white Elephant ? (Pun Intended) While an extension to Hayes would be a white elephant, it would provide the trunk route from there to central London.

New Bakerloo trains (follow on from Piccadilly trains) need to be ordered by end of 2026 at the latest. Plus Stonebridge Park depot needs complete rebuild plus works along the line might even necessitate a complete minimum 2-year blockade.

If that’s the case I think they’re a strong argument to delay it a little bit and implement the planned Lewisham extension around the same time.

I don’t think there’s any certainty at all - TfL may choose to not order further trains as an add on - finances may not allow it.

TfL is now starting to seek suppliers for Bakerloo Line upgrading, ahead of ordering new rolling stock. The line needs depot modifications, power supply work, signalling work and also work to address issues that might crop up with matching platform levels and tracks with the new trains. TfL has issued a "Prior Information Notice" which is intended to gather information from potential suppliers - feedback and ideas - around potential costs, and whether there may be new ideas for delivering the project, or potential problems. It is now assumed that the new trains will be based on the Piccadilly Line stock now coming off the Siemens Mobility production line. If the contract is to be awarded to Siemens it needs to be placed by the end of this year. This would mean that most of the upgrade work would need to be ready by 2028 when the first trains arrive for safety and compliance testing and driver training, ready for entry into service in 2030. The Prior Information Notice is unrelated to the proposed Bakerloo Line extension, as the trains need to be replaced regardless of whether the extension goes ahead or not. Obviously there would be economies of scale if the two projects could be synchronised, but TfL is reliant on the Government to agree to that. www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/tfl-seeking-suppliers-for-bakerloo-line-overhaul-70999/
