Come to think of it I don't know whether to laugh or weep. We've lived through the covid 19 pandemic, queues for fuels, extinction rebellion protests, various protests in the UK, England making it to the finals of the Euros, the scavenger hunt for food season (just before covid kicked off) not to mention Bojo resigning and now the heatwave. What a time to be alive. don't forget Russia invading Ukraine! That too

Just had to pop out from work and was surprised just how hot it is already! Really hit me! As others said it does indeed look like today will be the worst of the two days.

Last night was the warmest on record according to BBC News. The temperature stayed above 25C in West Yorkshire, beating the previous overnight record of 23C. The highest temperature recorded yeaterday was 38.1 degrees in Suffolk - just shy of the all-time high of 38.7 recorded in nearby Cambridge in 2019. In London today temperatures are already above 32C at 09.00 and it is possible that 40C will be reached and even exceeded today. There is however a cool front on the way, South West England will experience lower temperatures and some rain showers today. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-62184978

It’s provisionally the hottest day on record in the UK. It’s 39.1c in Surrey and it’s only just gone 12pm! A band of light rain is currently coursing across my part of Devon, it started just before 12.00 and should give way to sunshine by 14.00 at the latest. It was a warm 26C at 12.00 even with the cloud although it is forecast to drop to 22C by 14.00 before rising again slightly in the afternoon. Overnight low forecast at 17C at 04.00 and 06.00. We had 36C in Bude yesterday which is a record for Devon and Cornwall, and 35C at Chivenor which is just shy of the Devon record of 35.4C set in August 1990 at nearby Saunton Sands, both near Barnstaple. Plymouth on the South side was only slightly cooler. at 34C. Temperatures in Devon and Cornwall rarely go above 30C because there is a long coastline and nowhere is too far from the sea, which generally means mild winters and comfortable summers.

40.2C just recorded at Heathrow. I was sceptical about seeing 42C today, but I think 41C will definitely be exceeded.

Bikes are banned on the circle line and presumably other London underground lines too due to the heat. I tried to get on it at Paddington but was unable to.

I thought bikes were banned regardless? nope not on sub-surface lines and none tunnel sections out of peak. Bikes also allowed on the entire Elizabeth line including new section out of peak times. Foldable bikes allowed on the network at anytime (folded of course)

Non-folding bikes are banned from all the tube M-F 07:30 ‐ 09:30 and 16:00 ‐ 19:00 On Circle Lines there are no restrictions outside of these times ... that is my interpretation of the TfL site ... so depends what time northlondon83 was travelling if this was the norm or not.

Around 2/2.30pm so apart from weather restrictions they would be allowed
