Rather amusing find on twitter is I read a story (remember, this is twitter) that Qatar have bribed Ecuador to lose the first match 1-0, with a second half goal. Let's see if that comes true My natural reaction is a country like Qatar is capable of that level of cheating. I mean, they cheated to host the competition in the first place I have seen the jokes about that, but would not read too much into it

The one which is most upsetting are the deaths of the migrant workers who have toiled in harsh, near slavery conditions (think doing construction jobs but at 50 degrees in summer in the desert with minimal PPE, rock-bottom salaries, abusive superiors, passports taken away the moment you land in the country etc etc. no clue how many died in the process No sympathy for the people crying out because of no beer. In rome, do as the romans do. This was expected if you host the game in a deeply conservative Islamic country! I was actually surprised beer was going to be sold, as I did not realise alcohol was sold in Qatar, so a ban does not surprise me. Beer is sold in hotels & restaurants that are off the main streets and will also be sold at fan zones during the tournament. Changing the rules last minute after originally agreeing to sell alcohol in stadiums shows how much of a shambles this tournament has been and how corrupt both Qatar & Fifa that when the Qatari Royals click their fingers, Fifa bends over and says yes please

I am really not getting into this world cup and at the moment, don't care who wins it. World cups are normally a good filler for the close season. This year it is an unwanted interruption to the season, in a country rife with inequalities and abuses. Probably going to veto it I would still watch it. There has been a lot of press agenda backlash at trying to silent the world cup etc. but when it is in other countries with various other serious atrocities etc they turn a blind eye to them. It is always of what suits their own personal agenda. My only gripe is it is the wrong time of the year, it really should have been in the summer, despite the heat in Qatar It should have never been awarded to Qatar in the first place, a winter world cup disrupts the football season, whilst the world cup is filled with corruption just by Qatar hosting it

Both Qatar and Russia should never have been awarded and unusually they were done together, very rare. Sepp Blater and Co. really only thought about themselves. VAR controversy already 😲 Quite a few yellow cards for Qatar as well. Great goal from Ecuador 🇪🇨 Qatar play worse than non league teams, not even a shred of ability from them - still, fair play to Ecuador for managing the game comfortably.

Don't worry, Qatar will have the result overturned after a "gift" arrives in the VAR room - a comfortable nil-nil

Qatar looked very much out of their depth and Ecuador didn’t get out of second gear. I rather suspect Qatar are going to set an unwanted record by being the first host team to not win a single group game because I simply cannot see them beating Senegal or the Netherlands

Due to the time of year, controversy, heat, costs I very much doubt many true supporters from any country will come to see the games. (Except any hired "fans" / former labourers who built the stadiums) They might as well treat it like those games during Covid and dub sounds in

I'll go for a 2-0 England win today.

Well firstly I hope the Iranian goalkeeper is ok, sickening head injury and some serious questions need to be asked about how he was allowed to continue, what happened to the concussion protocol?
But wow........what a performance so far, I didn't see this coming!
