Personally I think the punishment for murder should be strengthened - whole life orders for the majority of murders, a life is a life.

Something that has been coming to light in the past few days is the nurse Lucy Letby, accused of murdering seven newborn babies and attempting to murder ten others, and if she is found guilty, which given the evidence on this case suggests that she was, she should serve a whole life order. someone who allegedly abused their position of employment to murder babies shouldn't be released.

I think that a similar punishment will be given to Lucy Let you as did Beverly Allitt. Letby seems to show no remorse for her victims and the crying in court was only to show the media that she regretted her actions when the opposite was true. She even admitted she was evil through her notes that she left. The only thing that might give her a lenient sentence is the fact that she's a young white woman who went to university. It's very similar to Lavinia Woodward who although didn't murder her boyfriend she still assaulted him yet she was allowed to walk free. This wouldn't have happened if the gender roles were reversed. It's similar to the Michelle Carter case in the US who coerced her boyfriend into suicide because he was suicidal. The case is slightly different because she didn't physically murder Conrad Roy (her boyfriend). The only difference between Lucy Letby and Allitt, Woodward and Carter is that Letby murdered newborn babies which in my opinion is far more horrific and worthy of a harsher sentence. Yet they use an innocent picture of her in the media, no surprise here because she's a woman. If a man did that the media wouldn't show him to be smiley instead he would have been sentenced to possibly life in prison and possibly very quickly. The Brixton murder is shocking however these murders aren't uncommon where the attacker doesn't know their victim

The random aspect is a little odd but in the 30 years I’ve lived in Brixton, this isn’t new or different

Not linked to the incident mentioned but do think something has changed in recent years and people are just completely reckless. I can't help but think a lot of crime is linked to a big increase in drug use.
I have in recent times witnessed blatant drug taking in cars that have pulled up then driving off which makes you wonder how people will react. I also work around 16-20 year olds and honestly find the change in attitude and behavior over the last few years shocking, it seems when they leave school with an awful attitude and start off on such a wrong footing.

There's lots of MH issues, exacerbated by drug use... sadly my bro in law fits into this category, sounds like a typical Daily Mail article, but product of a broken home after Dad left, spoilt throughout childhood by Mum, a Millennial who's never worked a day in his life, drawn into crime from 12 onwards, following those promises of easy money doing "errands", rewards of trainers etc... now 27, hooked on Skunk, using violence and threats if things do not go his way, has been known to smash things up if events do not go his way. Likes to live large, now dealing and going on expensive holidays with his GF. Mum lives in fear of him. Other times when sober can be fairly placid. People feel it's okay to express themselves without fear of consequence as sentencing is soft and the social care / mental health system is broken. Those awaiting an assessment by NHS may wait weeks in which times events like what's happened in Brixton occur, as they are left to muddle through life

I do feel the media and others are slightly exaggerating this tragic incident - I know I’m a broken record so I apologise for that but this sort of murder isn’t new in Brixton and it bugs me to see the same old misinformation about Brixton. The media have a habit of exaggerating crime when it comes to my area - we’ve gone from over exaggerating how dangerous the area was which was a common misrepresentation in the 80’s to 00’s to now going to the opposite and saying this sort of murder is rare because it happened in the day and to a stranger. People from Hackney & Tottenham probably might understand me on this issue more so given they commonly had similar stuff written about it

For example the Michelle Carter case would be considered criminally negligent manslaughter or at a push constructive manslaughter, depending on her intentions. If she never intended for him to die but merely push him to a level of dependency on her then it’s either of the two I’ve listed under involuntary manslaughter. Whereas it seems Letby intentionally murdered these babies which carries a much weightier sentence. I wouldn’t be surprised she got life at Bronzefield with parole after a set number of years.

NHS nurses work very long hours usually 12 hour shifts including days and nights which may have caused her to be stressed. I really wonder what caused her to act in the way she did. Some say she was incompetent at her job but Neo natal nurses get trained very well so it's unlikely that. Perhaps she had a miscarriage or is unable to have kids which caused her to kill those babies. Ever since she stopped working, the baby deaths at that hospital suddenly decreased whilst they only took place when she was working suggesting she was guilty.
