Exactly - so they shouldn’t keep using those as excuses for their poor management then should they. They done more than eff up - they should be out of power for a very long long time. Labour will inherit a total and chaotic mess - left by the filthy tories. Much like how the Tories inherited a note that said “no money left” back in 2010. Neither the Tories nor Labour deserve a chance to be anywhere near government but sadly our FPTP system means we’re stuck in a endless tennis match between two parties that are out of steam and are at this point only elected because the other one has been in power for too long. One of the reasons why I say it is time to give Lib Dems a chance

Khan has put in his manifesto to make all buses all zero emission by 2030. That would require funding from central govt? The govt may refuse. Said it so many times but will repeat it again. I will be staggered if they can convert the whole fleet by 2030! We are half way through 2024 and have already seen how slow roll outs are due to infrastructure works. Also need to fact in delays delivering new buses as companies meet demands from London and outside especially with more and more franchises coming online which may require electric buses. I believe once the infrastructure works are completed it is much straightforward to add more chargers for the next set or sole route. Another option (actually heard this on the video I shared re Zero Emission buses) was retrofitting but not sure if that will happen.

This thread has been fascinating to follow in the last 24 hours.... It's no secret, I am a long-standing Labour member and I have been knocking on doors for Sadiq and other candidates every day for weeks - all in outer London. ULEZ has a bark worse than the bite - it's gone down the list of people's concerns in my experience. It's an imperfect policy, but there will never be a perfect solution to such a complex issue. Free school meals, building more council houses and freezing TfL PAYG fares were hugely popular policies. And unlike the Tory candidate, people knew what they were getting with a vote for Sadiq and knew that he'd stand up to Rishi Sunak - like he did with Zip cards amongst other things. Sadiq won for a good reason - and increased his vote by taking votes from the Tories and the Greens for good reason - he offered policies and a record that got people out their house to go and vote. And people also like his story which resonates with a lot of Londoners - and comes in stark contrast to the likes of Johnson and Sunak - he grew up on a council estate, the son of a seamstress and a bus driver, worked hard, became a successful lawyer, an MP, a cabinet minister (the first British Muslim to do so) and then has led this city, the first Muslim Mayor in Europe. And he's come in for some terrible abuse from both Islamic extremists and the far-right, both of which he has taken on skillfully by not only supporting the Islamic community but also voting for gay marriage as an MP and supporting events like Pride - which is what a Mayor of an open and inclusive city should do. *awaits lynching in 3, 2, 1....* Son of a shop keeper with a business. He did NOT even do 5 years on the buses! One of his main reasons for winning is down to the main government itself and a poor Conservative candidate

The anti ULEZ expansion campaign seems to be continuing unabated and it seems many of those involved would normally be labour voters. He used his lackey's to do his campaigning.

A self-confessed gullible! Evidence for my theory. Please stop with these odd outbursts - ibus246 is entitled to vote for who he wants even if I don’t agree with that candidate, really no need to sound like your having a temper tantrum over it, surely none of are toddlers on here now? What you should really be doing is directing your anger towards Hall & the Tory party for either putting up a terrible candidate or for running a terrible campaign and the fact most of the people on here who don’t like Khan aren’t actually doing that baffles me. ibus246 has had a few outbursts just as bad, seems some are wearing rose tinted glasses

The "buses into public ownership" element is pledged to be done in conjunction with a future labour prime minister, so may not happen at all under Khan's mayoralty. The odds look quite good on there being a future Labour prime minister! NEVER, the rest of the country are not that stupid as in London; they would not put Khan as PM

Khan has put in his manifesto to make all buses all zero emission by 2030. That would require funding from central govt? The govt may refuse. Yes, but with so many new Labour areas also wanting money it will be spread pretty thin. The rise of Labour at a time when budgets are being squeezed and GDP is falling will not give Labour an easy ride. Historically Labour governments tend to be a bit more progressive on public spending but the biggest question would be where to spend what little there may be to go around. With large scale projects promised by northern mayors and down south a promise of the Olympics and bus ownership what project does Starmer cut first or do we pay for it in tax increases which would go down like a lead balloon? They can get cast off buses from London, there would be a lot of hybrid buses available, lol

Free nursery??? Where in London is that, because unless it is school, I do not know any nurseries that are free and not charging. All my nursery was free in 1990 before I started reception in 1992. Over 30 years ago!!!! Universities were free etc. the list is endless

He said they botched the selection process then didn't support the candidate. Both true really.
