It's an opinion piece, and I don't think it is well-written at all. A few ads for unhealthy foods won't get anywhere near funding any Bakerloo Line upgrade, let alone its extension. I agree with the connection between the adverts and Bakerloo funding coleration you make but it's still ridiculous that such a ban on these adverts is even implemented in the first place - people won't stop buying unhealthy food because some stations or trains no longer have adverts there and even if it's pocket change, I'd still rather that pocket change going into TfL's coffers rather than missing it out even to pay for some minor improvements. Yes even if it just covers the cost of operating one bus route its money worth having.

Whereas in reality the money saved from the cutting the 250, 264, 405, 412, 433 to either side of Croydon probably saves even less then what these adds would have bought in.

In fairness he's quite right to ban junk food ads but the Bakerloo and Central Lines are indeed in a sorry state.

I used the Bakerloo Line Saturday and was staggered at the amount of graffiti on the train! I thought the Central Line was bad. The whole Bakerloo line feels very run down but has a certain charm of feeling very retro.

www.se1.news/bakerloop-old-kent-road-bus-sadiq-khan/Sadiq Khan is proposing an express "Bakerloop" bus along the path of the proposed Bakerloo line extension from Lewisham up the Old Kent Road to Elephant as an prequel in the event he is re-elected Mayor on 2nd May. It would use buses in Bakerloo brown livery, as well as similar fixtures and moquette. It would run alongside the existing 21 and 453 routes. View Attachment No doubt the usual suspects will decry this as a waste of money but I think this would be a useful addition to the local transport network. The current direct bus link between Elephant and Lewisham is the very indirect and slow 136, Old Kent Road is wide enough to allow an express bus to overtake stopping buses and it offers some extra capacity as well as quicker journeys on an already very busy corridor. I suspect this would be numbered 'BL1' They would not cry it is a waste of money if it was not announced to gain votes. So much time before to do that or even after the election. It is all what Khan is about. The fact it runs through key Labour areas says it all. Maybe we can get express bus routes that would run over other extension where the Underground should have gone like the New works program etc. but no they are cross border and would go into non Labour voting areas

What about a limited stop North Cheam Queen Victoria, Sports Centre, Woodstock, Morden South Station and Morden Station to relive the 93 or continue to Morden Rd Tram, South Wimbledon Station and Wimbledon Station.

I can't see any other scenario than the poor 453 getting cut to shreds if this comes into being as there has to be some money saved at some point. I'm thinking 10-12 minute frequency being generous. Despite the fact that the two routes will serve very different purposes and the "Bakerloop" having nothing to do with the West End-Elephant section which is the 453's busiest part.

Once the election is over I would be surprised if changes to freqs/even routes didn't occur.

The assembly member for Lewisham & Greenwich is then quoted as saying this will improve links between Lewisham & Lambeth when the only bit of Lambeth that is getting it is the Waterloo corridor - the majority of the route will run through Southwark with the sothern end being in Lewisham. There are other ways, and better ones too, in improving links between Lambeth & Lewisham

The whole Bakerloo line feels very run down but has a certain charm of feeling very retro. Graffiti on the exterior of trains is certainly getting worse, have seen a lot more on the District Line. That said there is so more much of it in the urban environment since lockdown that it was only ever a matter of time before it started affecting trains. My local Council has seen reports of graffiti rocket since 2020.
