This is being dressed up as an improvement despite the fact several cuts have already occurred on the Old Kent Road corridor including the removal of one route. The assembly member for Lewisham & Greenwich is then quoted as saying this will improve links between Lewisham & Lambeth when the only bit of Lambeth that is getting it is the Waterloo corridor - the majority of the route will run through Southwark with the sothern end being in Lewisham. There are other ways, and better ones too, in improving links between Lambeth & Lewisham I thought it was only going to Elephant and Will drop off at the Charlie Chaplin so possibly won't even enter Lambeth. Even worse then, just a serious waste of time at this point

When was the last time that Lewisham and Elephant & Castle were directly linked by bus along the Old Kent Road?

When was the last time that Lewisham and Elephant & Castle were directly linked by bus along the Old Kent Road? I don't think it ever has apart from the short spell when the 53 was diverted via Lewisham in 2002.

There was a huge sinkhole opened on the A2 between Deptford and Blackheath, said to be relating to historic chalk mines. The PVR of the 53 increased to something like 75-100 with a variety of extra buses including many from the sixth emergency service of the time, Blue Triangle. The road was closed for 8 months with lane closures for 14 months.

This was just pre 453 aswell when the 53 well and truly had huge demand.

I was just thinking about the Superloop 2 set of routes and how the project is progressing as we haven't heard any new developments since mayoral election and the subsequent general election. This development here does reaffirm my prediction that the Bakerloop bus will be the first Superloop 2 route to be launched even if the funding is yet to be secured apparently. On another note, if TFL plan to take styling cues from the Bakerloo line for the Bakerloop bus or as I like to call it route SL15 (the colour of the Bakerloo line is quite drab) it will court a lot of attention from the media and the general public when it is launched. Interesting that Southwark want the Bakerloop bus to be a Waterloo to Lewisham route although I think the Elephant & Castle as the terminus will be chosen in the end due to the fact that E&C in itself is a major interchange and that to terminate a bus in Waterloo from the South is quite awkward.

Unless the 45 leaving creates space, were would it stand at Elephant & Castle. Also I remember correctly doesn't the 468 temporarily stand on Borough Road

Frivolous waste of money branding this as anything other than Superloop before any commitment has been gained for a Bakerloo line extension. Other than that, I think this route will be very well used.

Other than that, I think this route will be very well used. It is a unique route (a sort of pre-metro, if you like), and any extra costs of branding will be covered by Section 106 developer funding. The route is designed to kick-start the development along the route that will help to justify the Bakerloo Line extension.
