No with a decker and a luggage rack downstairs, this is not going to leave many seats downstairs. I for one will not be leaving a full suitcase out of sight and go up stairs .... I want to be downstairs to keep an eye on it - so single deckers are ideal for the route in my eyes. Agreed. Quite why anyone would think double decks on the X26 would be a good idea is beyond me. I'm also in agreement about passengers with luggage not wanting to go upstairs. I hope if QL buy Tempos they consider the 12.6m version, if a 12m bus fits around the route I suspect the slightly longer one will be ok (and Tempos are only 2.50m wide instead of 2.55m that some buses are). Although QL have only used ADL for double decks the enviro300 also comes in longer 12.5m (and bog-standard 12m) versions As it is limited stop route I'm not convinced a dual door bus is needed, would be better to have single door and say 3 rows of 2+1 seating near front to give space for short distance standees For those who have suggested the X26 can get busy on short section between X and Y, I would suggest this is more a fault of other routes not meeting demand rather than X26 needing double deckers over its whole route.

Think I'll throw something into the random guess pool for vehicles ;D
Ok, so the X26 is a limited stop route that copes well with a single door, needs luggage racks and a full size single deck vehicle. These are the facts of the route.
Quality Line already have vehicles from Optare and one Citaro.....but wait!! They also have ADL products. This is also fact.
Now if you add the two together you get the only London bus route that could possibly use E300's..........
.......................the rest is up to you now gentleman..........

Well, the tender definitely specified single door single decks with 70 capacity and extra luggage space, so that narrows down what's likely to be ordered.

DD12 simply has the route number, not including a via point. So today, simply showed '418'.
How come?

293 was their last lost route. They operated it from 2003-08 when it was lost to Metrobus. The 413 was lost in 413 and has been retended and retained by LG twice though both times did not gain a 2 year extension so i guess LG are not brilliant with it. The on time target on the route is 86% - that means to get an extension LG needed to get 90% on time for a year. It normally makes target but 90% is tough in London and a couple of periods with road works messed it up if I remember correctly.

I always thinks its unfair as Road works are no fault of the operator yet if you looked at the Service provided on the 413 its very good and the buses are always well presented (well that could be because theres mostly 09 reg SOE's on the route). As for wanting better routes for local links in the Sutton, Kingston area we would love that but I cannot see TFL staring a new route from say Kingston taking the more direct route to Sutton (131 route) then running accross Sutton to Carshalton to provide a direct link between Cheam and Carshalton so we have to make the best of the X26. But even now I have just seem a X26 approaching Sutton with all seats taken and passengers up to the windscreen and I bet you not all of those have luggage and would have loved a seat on the top deck. If routes like the 105, 111, 140 and cope running to Heathrow with DD's without any luggage racks at all I think a DD X26 with 15 seats downstairs and a luggage rack would cope fine.

How many seats do the 03/05 omnicitys have and how much luggage space do they have. the reason i ask is because whenever i go to croydon or kingston i mostly see olympus/omnicity dd or omnicity sd from the 293 on the route and none of those have luggage racks. i mean 11m dds with luggae racks and about 20 seats or so downstairs cant be that bad and for those who dont have luggage or just backpacks can go upstairs.

According to the fleet list they are B36F and i know they have luggage racks behind the drivers cab with 2 or 3 shelves

Quality Line have confirmed they are buying 15 new buses for 465 and X26 Doesn't specify type (one existing versa is moving to 465) www.epsomcoaches.com/index.php/quality-line-secure-new-contractsAlso says buses for 406 will be refurbished (but not clear if this includes those for 418 although they are used as common fleet) as 418 contract had 2 year extension rather than renewal
