Hi All What are the best routes in London in your view for fast rides and driver thrashing the buses? Mine used to be the 105 when it was with First using TN's Eastern bit of the 123, parts of the X26 where the drivers can put their foot down, parts of the 34 can be fun. The 372 can be quite quick between Rainham and Lakeside down the country lanes. Slightly outside London but if the Metroline 84 runs late then the drivers put their foot down on the faster bits of road. Two of my favourite fast rides were actually on the 29 and 73 in bendy days. The drivers just drove really smoothly but quickly and we didn't have to stop at every stop so the revs got up a bit.

Hi All What are the best routes in London in your view for fast rides and driver thrashing the buses? Mine used to be the 105 when it was with First using TN's Funny you mentioned the 105 because that was the first route I travelled on in 1986 where a driver thrashed a Metrobus beyond 40 miles an hour along the A4. Assuming the 140 hasn't changed since the 80s, that would be another route considered at the Heathrow end. The 157 and 164 between Morden and Rose Hill has a good 40 mile an hour dual carriageway in between. Rose Hill to Morden is a better direction as it has a slight down hillslope where the bus would go that much faster. I believe the Volvos on the 157 still max out at 50 mph, not too sure about any of Sutton's DOEs or Es on the 164 (when they appear). The 264 along Mitcham Common has a good 40mph stretch for the DB250s. The 265 has a good bit of 50mph stretches along the A3. The 93 has good thrashing between Putney Station and Wimbledon Hill, love it when it's a PVL now that they are updated. Also good thrashing between South Wimbledon, Morden and Cheam. The 468 between Camberwell Green and Herne Hill, mainly at night. The 60 between Swan and Sugarloaf and Coulsdon. The 405 between Coulsdon and Red Hill, mostly 40mph roads with a 50mph section near the beginning of the M23. The 131 (and especially the N87) between new Malden and Kingston.

The Keston/Biggin Hill area on the 246/320 always brings good speed, it's especially fun with the Scanias.
The X26 as mentioned by Snoggle is another good one. Funnily enough another good route for Citaros is the 227, on a non-busy time they really get up to speed.
The 96 and 492 are good routes with the speed between Dartford and Bluewater, unfortunately the 96 does crawl a bit between that point and Woolwich. The 492 is meant to be good across most of the route though.
The R8 is an interesting one if the roads are clear, and it's quite an experience on the country lanes as the roads are very narrow but the small Solos are pretty plucky. Saltbox Hill on the 464 is also a good one, the downhill ride is fantastic in any bus that happens to be on there.
My favourite though, simply because it brings speed to an often very slow area, is the 76, especially on Waterloo Bridge. The acceleration on those HVs is fantastic and you don't get speed like that in Central London from many other routes, even the 15 or 139.

The 111 between Hampton Court and Kingston, especially when running late and fast! Route 210 along the Spaniards Road is great too. Had a nice ride on TE1098 on it on NYE!

I remember the 105 with its TN's, it's nowhere near as fun with the VW's . What didn't help was the 105 route around Heathrow was changed slightly with the new contract in July 2011, no longer serving the Compass Centre. That was a loop accessed from a bit further up the A4 before coming back to go through the tunnel. Other Routes: 81: Cranford - Poyle is the main bit. 95: Along the A40 350: Heathrow Terminal 5 - West Drayton 427/607: Hayes Grapes - Uxbridge 490: Around the perimeter road at Heathrow A10: Heathrow Central - Stockley Park

370 can get a good bit of speed and thrash if you get the right driver, Same as the 372 can sometimes.

36 along Park Lane northbound early in the mornings or late at night as long as you don't have to serve the middle stop.
436 same as the 36 and the bit between New Cross and Lewisham going past the college and down the hill and nearly the whole route route if you have an EH.
129 along the Pilot Busway.

Pretty much as everything Hassaan said;
Had 8788 on the 490 the other week we we were hitting over 50mph along the Southern Perimeter road.
A couple of others;
90 - Between Hayes & Harlington and Hatton Cross, Their drivers always seem to give it plenty along this stretch, never been further south on this route beyond Hatton X but I'd be sure they'd still give it the beans all the way to Feltham.
331 - Between Uxbridge & Denham / Nothwood & Ruislip. 50mph roads and plenty of hills! ;D
