I'm glad 'Connor' mentioned OPO - on the 24 yesterday, freebus was in operation as quite a number of people were not touching in on the readers or by the driver. Glad to hear that the NBfL is justifying its extra cost and recouping that from day one....

I travelled a few times yesterday. Around 11-ish, I travelled from Warren St to Charing Cross Rd. I needed to pop off whilst the bus was in traffic, and the safety officer was standing across the doorway, even though the bus was stationary. I asked to pop off, and she said that she advised me strongly not to, but moved to allow me to do so once I had accepted her warning. I popped quickly into the building I needed to, and returned to the same bus. The bus then broke down by Trafalgar Square, at a piece of temporary single-line road, blocking the road for a good 5-10 mins. After lots of attention from officials, we carried on our way... Then turned short at Victoria Stn.
By the time I had to pop into town again, around 4.30ish, things seemed a little more chaotic. At Westminster Stn, the first northbound bus was not due for 15 mins, with the second bus 29 mins away!!! I checked the other direction on Countdown, in case a bus was heading to turn at Parliament Sq., but the next southbound bus was 12 mins away! These are certainly not standard frequencies on a Saturday! Hopefully the first day problems will settle down very quickly, as the 24 is usually such a frequent and busy route.

I wonder if conductor crew operation may actually come into play (in good time) if it's proven that too much money's being lost through punters not tapping in. It may end up being cheaper to have conductor payrolls than to loose out on uncollected revenue. The alternative would be to keep the bus permanently in OPO mode, which would defeat the objectivity of the LTs.

Why can't we just have normal buses. The whole thing is a complete waste of money and just a vanity project. They look bloody ugly. They get rid of the tramp express just to replace it with another free loaders express. Seems pointless and I hope boris gets voted out next time.

I think the new name for the NBFL is the Freemaster. Because it allows open boarding and giving the option to touch in or risk getting inspected and fined by the revenue inspectors!!

That's something I suppose that you did manage to disembark. But the fact that people are not allowed to alight or join other than at bus stops seems - to me - to render the open platform completely pointless and without purpose. Glad they're making a reliable start to service too. The number of officials around firefighting shows just how important face and image are ahead of service IMO.

Boris is standing down after this term in 2016 so it won't be him getting in.

Well i think its aimed for Central London because TFL had already gone back into having a bus designed specifically for London. But i bet it will be nicknamed the Freemaster because open boarding translates to free bus for commuters. And i like the normal buses equally to the NBFL's. Also with the 24 i been told that the 5 VWH are left as spares for the route incase few of the NBFL's break down. I think its ideal for the VWH to operate during night time.

I suppose getting rid of the Articulated Buses was a waste of time then and I suppose Tfl expects everyone to be tapping in every time they board the Borismaster. Just the only problem is there is never an RPI when you need one and there is always an RPI when you don't need one.

noticed from picks drivers pulling up normally obviously never drove the old RM's ... they should pull forward so rear is at stop. (Devil's Advocate) ... But it's not a Routemaster. You can board at any door, so why do they have to stop with the back at the stop? What really annoyed me yesterday was the conductors completely preventing any sort of hop-on, hop-off operation by planting their entire body across the door between stops. You might as well just close the door and not bother with the second member of staff. Yeah, that really got me annoyed today!!! I was going to get off in traffic on Charing Cross Road and the "conductor" put her arms across the doors and said "you can't get off here, you need to wait for the stop". WHAT IS THE POINT OF "OPEN BOARDING" AND HAVING THE REAR DOOR OPEN WHEN NO-ONE IS "ALLOWED" TO HOP ON AND OFF?!!! Do the "conductors" even have powers to prevent people hopping on and off?! What can they actually do about it?
