This is from twitter... "@philippasl I'm on a new routemaster AND I jumped on at a red light! #exciting #newnostalgia" "@dan_S_McKee New London routemaster bus outside my office today #guildhall @tflofficial pic.twitter.com/H0VqBIj3rw" So the conductor is now allowing passengers to enter and exit via the rear, between stops. Presumably someone had the sense to point out that it's an OPEN rear platform for a good reason

These platform guards are going to end up annoying the punters. The 38 passengers appear to have managed it fine; why do the platform staff on the 24 feel the need to police the bus? Not just the passengers but maybe the drivers as well and especially if they are on their last trip. The last thing you need is others delaying the bus just because one oyster reader isn't working. I guess if this keeps hapenning then the passengers will soon fight back. Surely if the bus is stuck in traffic then they should be allowed to alight especially if the doors are already open Trip on LT16 this morning and none of the oyster readers were working, free bus in operation

The seven bus weekday schedule on the 38 was reduced to five to allow LT1 & 2 to tour sixteen countries promoting the 'Great Britain' project. LT1 is also now in the hands of TfL and not Arriva anymore. Thanks vjaska, I kmow that 1&2 are touring, still wondering the reason why the 5 bus schedule on the 38 isnt crew operated?? I beleive it is because the staff schedule is not interlinked to the garage run-out schedule, therefore the buses could be departing termini at unknown times so a second crew person would stuggle to find them amongst all the normal deckers.

I beleive it is because the staff schedule is not interlinked to the garage run-out schedule, therefore the buses could be departing termini at unknown times so a second crew person would stuggle to find them amongst all the normal deckers. Logic would say that's right. With a supplementary schedule Arriva knew precisely when the NB4L would run on the 38 and could crew appropriately. Now the NB4Ls are simply part of the ever reducing vehicle allocation on the 38 and that is an OPO route so the roster will only be for drivers. The use of NB4Ls on the 38 was / is a trial of the prototypes. The NB4L project has now entered a different phase so it's no surprise that things have changed. It must have cost a fortune to roster drivers or instructor drivers as "conductors" on the 38. Lest we forget TfL's bus contract budget is not overflowing with cash.

This rather begs the question about who told the conductors NOT to let people hop on and hop off. Apparently TfL have also owned up to "teething problems and vehicle breakdowns" with the new buses. Ho hum - they could hardly deny it could they??

No it means what I wrote which is merely a copy of what Tom Edwards tweeted. You read Twitter so dig out the tweet and read for yourself. We do not know what has *actually* been said by anyone and I doubt we will ever know.

Still haven't been on an LT yet.....

The conductors don't give a starter signal...there are no buttons of any sort to communicate with the driver at the conductor's position by the rear door. Incorrect, there are two buttons recessed where the Conductor stands. One of those is the interlock to allow the bus to leave a stop.
