Incorrect, there are two buttons recessed where the Conductor stands. One of those is the interlock to allow the bus to leave a stop. And the infamous "ding ding" bell is missed out as well. Infamous?

I'm gonna get in there first .... What's the other one do? I just remember there being two buttons there when LT1 (I think) was shown at the Leyton open day last year. Understandably anyone who knows (sadly not me) is being a bit coy to stop anyone using them.

Apart from the obvious heat issues, does anyone know how is this route running now? Have passengers and staff got familiar with the vehicle and are journeys quicker now than they were when I visited on the first day of LT's??
Was thinking of paying a visit this Saturday.....but I think I might wait until the weather gets colder!!!

Was thinking of paying a visit this Saturday.....but I think I might wait until the weather gets colder!!! I think it is impossible to tell how well Metroline are doing with the 24. This is because there have been horrendous emergency roadworks at Trafalgar Square (now cleared) and currently at Victoria. The 24 was already stuck with circumnavigating Victoria due to the tube station project works. Now that diversion is jammed solid because of two sets of road closures. In those circumstances all the bus companies will be struggling. Traffic reports on the radio said the traffic was jammed up as far as Park Lane this morning so it shows how slow it must be through Victoria. Leon Daniels and Sir Peter Hendy have said the 24's NB4Ls are fixed but with temperatures nudging 30 degrees (and increasing humidity) on Saturday I think *any* bus will struggle to be "cool" in that heat.

Pretty smoothly although there are serious delays to all routes in the Victoria area at the moment due to a burst water main, also very hot weather is forecast for this weekend although apparently the air con problems have been sorted. Also likely to be exceptionally busy around Camden Town with much of the Northern Line out of action.

I remember seeing 13 buses on the 24 stand at Hampstead Heath 1 week 2 days into the new LTs. I took loads of photos, and even thought that I might as well make a post out of them, seeing the oddities in the fleet on logos. Post: wltmauc.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/24NBFL1wk2d.html

Post: wltmauc.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/24NBFL1wk2d.htmlIt shows that the buses have been over-ordered cant they move the buses on lot quicker and have the buses to stand at the further stops down the line? Don't be daft. All it shows is that the route is struggling in terms of its reliability. There have been huge traffic related problems on route 24, there have been several diversions at weekends and there have been vehicle breakdowns. I don't where Metroline do their crew reliefs but if it is Hampstead Heath then it is entirely logical that buses will end up there if crews have to swap over for breaks or shift ends. There is no point in having buses at stops in Camden if the drivers are at the end of their shift and have to finish. What do they do? Shove everyone off and drive off? It's clearly a mess to have half the route allocation at one end of the route but sometimes things are outside the control of the operator and they can't just expect crews to keep driving and driving regardless. It also does not show there are too many buses - it just shows they are in the wrong place relative to where they should be due to delays and late running. You saw the Routemasters programme where the Stagecoach I-Bus controllers had their heads in their hands because buses were 60-90 minutes late because of a traffic problem in Woolwich. I imagine the Metroline controllers were doing something similar when it was taking 60 minutes to get through Whitehall and Trafalgar Square the other week when Cockspur St was closed due to a gas leak. You can't keep a bus service to time when it takes an hour to go a few hundred metres. Surely watching the Routemasters programmes has given you some more insight and understanding as to what it takes to run London's bus services properly? Yes it's a pain when buses are late but it's not some great plot to screw things up for people. Things just go wrong sometimes.
