Still, at least there will be gangs of revenue staff hanging about, ready to pounce on the free buses from time to time? #werebackwherewestarted #freebus #moneypit During the bendy days, it was the frenzy of the media/papers that kicked off that it's a free bus. All because of the bendies being imposed by red Ken. Before it all happened people had the common sense to buy a bus pass/travelcard and use it on the bendy bus. London is not the only cityin the world that have open boarding buses, it's also in Eastern Europe as well where people board the bus on any door and verify their ticket themselves. Here is couple of examples... Minsk, Belarus - www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYw3uShPPmkSkopje, Macedonia (with its fake Routemasters) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdV2o1MXYIkCrazy indeed. Why not let the conductors do a "proper" job and collect, or at least check fares. Speed up the boarding times, reduce evasion, give them something to actually do. To my observations, being a "customer assistant" looks like a mind-numbingly boring job, even when passengers need assistance, I've noticed they go to the driver rather than the CA. I did have one ride on a 24 where the driver was actually pulling up with the rear of the bus at the stop and encoraging people to get on at the back. Actually made a great difference to the journey speed. Also there is the nonsense (I believe I am correct in saying this) that the doors cannot be opened individually. This creates problems whereby if a passenger is running for the bus (in OPO mode) then the driver is reluctant to let them on as opening all the doors again increases the dwell time. ]I've seen a few drivers do that, pull up at stops in such a way as to encourage people to board at the rear. Yes I've looked in the cab and there is just one door open button and three individual door close buttons, quite what the thinking behind that was I don't know? I think TFL done the most silliest thing by having one single door open button to open all doors. What TFL should've done is, have open door buttons which opens the door individually instead of one go. Having a all doors open button at a busy bus stop where no one is leaving the bus would encourage people to go in by the middle and rear doors and not touch in. TFL should implement a button on all buses for drivers to press, whenever the driver looks at the CCTV of where people board by the middle and rear doors and purposely go past the Oyster reader without paying then taking a seat upstairs. Then when the driver witnesses that the passenger is not touching in, then he can press the button which logs the time and date and a clip from the CCTV footage of someone not touching in. Then 1 minute of the clip will be sent to TFL revenue office as well as the information of the fare evasion occurrence. Other operators in North America have that type of similar system where it counts the 'fare not paid' passengers. One example in Canada... www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4HmYsO04UYHave constant announcements on the iBus within the likes of "You must touch in as you board with your Oyster or Contactless Payment Card". The other announcement which is "Ticket inspectors operate on this bus. 'Pay as you go' users are reminded to touch in your Oyster card as soon as you board". Then it will scare people to touch in because they think the revenue inspectors are currently on the route. It should also occur on the routes 507 and 521 which have open boarding buses as well! TFL needs to start installing window openings on the NBFL before the summer comes. It's also reported in the BBC news site in September. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-24152506 but I haven't seen any latest about it... Lastly, Have Wrightbus to tweak the design of the bus to make it more conventional by removing the rear door and rear staircase. Then it will market well for operators that only need a single doored and dual doored NBFL's. But they might be ideal for routes that are in the Outer London Areas. It will save the cost of operating the bus because of its MPG...etc. I just wished the NBFL is cheaper then a off the shelf Hybrid bus like what the AEC Routemaster used to be when it competed the off the shelf prices. I always thought specific designed buses are cheaper then off the shelf buses. But no, it make the off the shelf buses more cheaper while the specifically designed buses expensive. This is why they need to remove all the unwanted elements on the NBFL and make it cheap as possible...

I know - let's have the "freebbc" scare announcements on his modified NB4L done by the Daleks and Cybermen from Doctor Who. "If you have not touched in, you will be Deleted" "Validate your Oyster Card or be EXTERMINATED" "Do not stand on the rear platform or we will track down your family and EXTERMINATE them" "Board through all doors or you will be Deleted" "No standing on the upper deck or a Blinking Angel will stand behind you" For goodness sake ..... get real please.

Little bit harsh snoggle. Though i think your on to something but it should be an announcement stating revenue inspectors are on board the bus you just watch those fare evaders tap in .

There are enough repetitive announcements already, just have a revenue inspector on each bus, give them a ticket machine and call them a conductor

Sounds too expensive... instead, why don't we involve hundreds of plain clothes staff at random stops backed up by lots of police?

Still tight (untested?!) turns on route 11....I saw LT 44 attempt to left turn out of Limerston Street onto King's Road last night, but got stuck by bollards on a road island! This caused traffic to back up The normal turn around from Chelsea Worlds End is from Shalcomb Street left onto King's Road to pick up passengers at Hobury Street/Worlds End stop, but drivers sometimes use Limerston Street as a shortcut (and miss out the passengers!)

Had a look at the desto's on the 390 batch - Cricklewood, Maida Vale, Kilburn Park, Park Lane (Hilton) and Brent Cross(!) to name a few... That smells like 16 or 189.
That said, I believe it's been discussed before.

According to other posts it is the 8/N8. They are getting closer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Why cant it be the 15? ???agh! Yes, see the Tender Update thread - 8 is going NBfL. Although 15 seems an 'ideal' candidate, the hybrids will suffice for now.
