Wasn't it expected to run at a loss? Obviously there are benefits to London's night time economy. Well on that note, let the buses run on a loss as well, no need for any of these cuts we are experiencing. As there are obvious benefits to the day and nighttime economy. As Sid said no one expected the night tube to be profitable this early. IIRC the break even point is after about 16 years! However that's not the basis on which it was justified. It is more about faster journey times and supporting the night time economy. The bus network already runs at a loss - £705m!

Hearing rumours that night tube is abandoned for at least remainder of this financial year (to 31 March 2021)
Seems Operators will be redeployed to day services
Some gossip (but much less consistent, so unreliable) that the weekend only night buses might stay suspended for time being

NT drivers who still want to only work Friday and Saturdays only will still be able to do this apparently.

TfL have announced to staff that Night Tube will not be returning this spring and that existing operators will be moving onto other duties.
Night Tube will only return “when London needs it!” That will involve a fresh recruitment campaign, training etc.

Entirely appropriate decision considering the network has been down to 10% of normal passenger usage throughout most of last year. Revenue levels were made even dire by advertising from other companies significantly less on the TfL network since the pandemic began. Ultimately the Night Tube is a success story because there was an undeniable demand for it during weekend nights. Indeed the break even point for running Night Tube came a year earlier than projected (2.5 years in), despite forecasts not accounting for the staggered start to Tube lines. It makes no sense to start the service when it will be at a loss. Even if the Government's roadmap faces no hitch, most if not all nighttime venues will be capped at 50% at best when reopened in June so that's effectively half the passengers for Night Tube not returning. TfL are going to use system data from last Tubes and night buses to see if bringing back the Night Tube is feasible. For me to say as a punt that they'll likely try to reintroduce the service during December as they'll have to run trains all night anyway for New Year's Eve is way too presumptuous. We just don't know for certain what will happen in the months before then but TfL has taken the view- rightly so I believe, that the nighttime economy in London won't return to the choatic type of normal anytime soon.

Early conversations indicating that the Victoria and Central lines may return to night operation from November.

The irony being TfL would likely have to further cut bus services both day and night to help cover costs meaning the vulnerable would be even more unsafe at their end of the journeys whilst transitioning to buses.

Agreed. Alot of people might not even know that the cuts to bus routes has already started and more to come. I think this is all just an excuse (by TfL) to cut routes not that I'm against night tube but just a thought.

Been reading this and I am sorry but it is a false sense of security. I do not know if this is just born out of people wanting the service back more than anything else. There was a lot of serious and sexual assaults on the night tube, worst on the Central line down to lack of CCTV. IMO that is ridiculous how TfL were forcing bus operators to retrofit CCTV in the early 2000's but then never touched the Underground carriages. They always come up with every excuse not to spend on the Underground because it is owned by them. Some of the sexual assaults against women have been in places with cctv on the night tube, and at stations on the outside. The safest way is driving yourself to and from the location, as I cannot even say the same for taxi/minicab after a string of serious incidents like Worboys etc.

I've heard a lot of women say that they won't use the tube after about 8pm.
