As expected, full confirmation that a full comprehensive review of bus services in Barnes and Mortlake will take place this year (https://www.london.gov.uk/questions/2022/0186) - place your bets on what they propose to cut change in the area. Interesting to see if any changes get tied into ANY other *speculated* changes in the Putney/Hammersmith(?) areas. Cue yet more requests to get the 22 extended to Barnes that will be declined. If it actually happens I will eat my hat - although I will add stock and simmer gently for two hours first.

I do wonder now about the 37 corridor, and whether that is in the firing line for reform in some way.

Not unless Barnes starts becoming a Labour-voting highly marginal area and there's a need for the Mayor to shore up support! But that'd never happen, would it?

Not heard of any suggestion yet about changing the 37/337 corridor interestingly enough, but have to wonder whether the section between Clapham Jcn and Putney needs the 11bph combined frequency when compared to the level of demand - time will tell there. Most of the rumours centre on the corridors into central London - and I'm sure it won't be too long at all before any such review & associated changes planned is made public. The Chelsea bus lobby will maybe have to get to work again like with the 11/19!

It would be an incredibly silly decision to mess with the 37 corridor especially given the 37 relies on other routes to assist it given its far and away the busiest & and most used on the corridor.

The Chelsea bus lobby will maybe have to get to work again like with the 11/19! Once again, the 19 was not solely saved by Chelsea residents. A Labour MP for Battersea started a campaign on behalf of her constituents to save the route - unlike in Chelsea, there are still many poor people who live in Battersea who obviously use the 19 to head to Central London

I'm always amazed the 37 with the long list of local and long links it provides didn't go up to every 8 mins 20 years ago. I think it was every 10 back in 1999.

Arguably the Barnes/Mortlake area needs to reflect 2 things now. Firstly that Hammersmith Bridge is likely to remain open now to pedestrians and secondly its unlikely to open to buses anytime soon.
The need for to capacity to Putney clearly isn't so needed due to people happy to walk over the bridge. I'd look at the 485 being every 15 mins, extended into the Riverside development but diverted to Mortlake. Discontinue the 378.
I'd take the 209 to every 12 mins to Castlenau and the 419 as it now every 12 mins down to Roehampton.
33 leave as it is.

It's been seriously neglected just like the 118 which should be every 10 by now. Inner London won't get these sort of improvements that they absolutely deserve

This is one area which is very overbussed - personally, I'd merge the 209, 378 (minus the Putney Bridge link) & 485 together into one route with a 15 minute frequency across the board. Would run from Wandsworth via the Riverside development rather than terminate there, via the 378 to Avondale Road and then 209 up to Barnes, Red Lion, do the 485 double run via Wetlands and then along Castelnau to Hammersmith Bridge. Starting from the riverside development decreases journey times for Putney bound journeys and merging the 209 & 378 together removes standing buses from Avondale Road which do end up blocking each other because there isn't enough room for both routes.

I thought you would pop up when I mentioned the 37 😂 My admittedly not totally local opinion has the 337 as more vulnerable than the 37 - in TfL’s current merger mania that route I can easily see either being fused with another or chopped up and fed to various other routes.

There has always been 2 routes from Clapham Junction to Putney since atleast 1981 due to I guess reasonable demand.

And before the 37, 337 and H37 were split into separate routes the 37 operated mostly in overlapping sections so there would have been a more frequent service in the middle of the route.

Absolutely agree especially as the 337 can get very caught up in the S Circular Road traffic so losing the reliable 37 to me would be very retrogade.
I absolutely think the 37 should remain as is.

The 33 would be good for a DD conversion and I'd agree with doing away with one of the 209/378 routes as long as there is the slack for other routes to pick up (33 DD conversion would be a good idea) especially as whenever I've used the 209 under its new form the demand is okay between Red Lion & Hammersmith Bridge. Perhaps the 533 could be novated to London General and then free up DELs for other uses in Metroline.
