I cannot see how we will return to the EU under the current government. Even then I think it should be at least 10 years since the last referendum to have another say.

To some extent, my leanings have changed from being a strong Remainer to a soft Stay-Outsider.
We are free to keep the good that has come or will yet come from Europe. We can still work together with Europe as well as we (or governments of the day) want for things of mutual interest or importance, such as trade, defence or the environment.
On the face of it, we had an excellent deal being in the European Union including the Single Market but without having had to adopt the Euro. The downsides, which may have contributed to the Leave vote, included potential directives from the EU over matters not essential for the Single Market, and also freedom of movement, which bothered some communities in particular who felt there was a risk of excessive immigration.
On balance, I still regret us not being in the Customs Union, as this was better for trade with the EU. Being outside has contributed to us having higher inflation than EU and some other countries. Although I would quite like us back in the EU, I cannot think of what terms would be entirely suitable. It would be democratically unsuitable without approval in a new referendum anyway, which is best avoided for quite some time yet.
Thankfully, we still have an open border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. I was on holiday in Ireland at the time of the referendum - pre-arranged as June 25th was for personal reasons my preferred Saturday in Dublin. Although my resolution would not change anything for anyone, it was partly in support of their worry about the consequences of the Leave vote that I decided that from then on, I would arrange a majority of my national bus trips to revolve around boroughs that voted Remain. Unless I have a day out in December after all, I calculate that even this year 56% of my bus enthusiast travels have been Remain-based.
