Portugal vs France.
I remember the Euros in 2004, and that was heart break for Portugal who lost the final as the hosts, to Greece. (In fairness they had a warning considering they lost to Greece in the opening game of that tournament as well).
Ronaldo played that game and was crying at the end of it. As much as I would like a repeat, I got a sneaky feeling for them. They have played their solid defensive tactics really well and could hold France out, and be dangerous with Ronaldo and Nani (who has been sneaky good). Portugal to win.
Whatever happens, one thing that will be a legacy from this tournament is the Iceland fans clapping. Certainly will see it in the premier league next season. Definitely at Swansea with Sigurdsson there, and I can just see Arsene Wenger leading the clapping in front of his adoring fans after they draw at home to Middlesborough and take a step closer to another top 4 and that imaginary trophy.

Now now, no need to mock Wenger - as an Arsenal fan, I already do that myself lol.

Totally agree with you about the Icelandic 'Huh' as I think it will be the new Mexican wave especially in sports all around the world not just football or the Premier League and about Arsenal

0-0 so far but the match has been interesting. Portugal are playing very well without Ronaldo, certainly giving France a fight towards the end of the first half. Meanwhile Ronaldo's Moth now has a Twitter account

I actually don't believe that France went and threw it away - the best team didn't win and in fact, Portugal have been poor in pratically every game throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to Portugal, I think they just about deserved it on the night.
Not the greatest tournament ever, I don't like the 24 team format which means three teams qualifying from four of the six groups although UEFA apparently think it's been a success, nothing to do money of course!

Not sure what game you watched lol. I think having 24 teams with 3 qualifying from 4 groups has actually been better as its made the final group games far more interesting rather than the usual nonsense of teams playing safe in a 16 & 32 team format.

I dont agree with you there. I expected Portugal to hold France as they did Croatia, Poland and Wales. Since Fonte came in,they have been solid. You have to give credit to the manager who was unbeaten in 14 games in charge. Just because its not great to watch does not mean Portugal played poorly. They have also shown towards the end of games that they were fitter. And yes France did throw it away. Anytime a manager puts Kante on the bench you are asking for trouble. Yeah Matuida was good, but Kante is better. Just look at his last 15 minutes against Germany. Matuida gets the nod over him because the manager substituted Kante against Republic of Ireland, as he was booked, and they turned the game around in a different system. He kept the same system and players even though there were better players on the bench. Surely, Remi should have come back in after his suspension, instead you have the inexperienced Umtiti playing, who was bullied amny times by Eder and then he failed to close down Eder's shot, after Eder beat Koscielny, who was playing out of position at right centre back to accommodate Umtiti. If Koscielny gets beat like that at LCb there is no danger, maybe he forgot where he was playing. 24 team format was good for me, as I get to watch more games, but it makes no sense. You have a whole two years qualifying that filers out the really bad teams. Then you have a group stages that then filter out the next set of bad teams. It undermines qualifying and the group stages. By the way some new teams would have qualified under the old format, like Iceland and Wales. If they keep the 24 team format they have to sort out the transition from group stage to knockout and 'who plays who'. It was very confusing and unfair. How do Italy win a group and play a second place team, while Poland finish second and also play a team that finishes second.

I thought Portugal deserved it having overcome the early loss of 'The Winker' .
I have to disagree about the 24 team format, some countries were just happy to draw all three group games and sneak through in third place as indeed Portugal did.
Not a great game last night but France were just not good enough to overcome Portugal's stubborn resistance, other than a few games I think the whole tournament has been poor .

Wonder if it's worth resurrecting this thread, Interesting game tonight. Was a really quiet game for the first half, but went South for Turkey very quickly after the own goal.

So who is everyone supporting and predicting who will win? I'm supporting Poland and hoping Lewandowski brings his Bayern Munich form with him whilst I think the eventual winners will be out of France & Portugal

This will be a very interesting tournament, I have a feeling France will win plus with Benzema back that’s a extra boost for them, dark horses I haven’t really looked into yet but will make my decision soon

So who is everyone supporting and predicting who will win? I'm supporting Poland and hoping Lewandowski brings his Bayern Munich form with him whilst I think the eventual winners will be out of France & Portugal I think that France stand a good chance, they have a really strong team. Portugal or Germany I think would be two who can come close, although even Germany would be a stretch. Although you have that super group which has Portugal, Germany and France all in it so we could see one of them making a premature exit if Hungary manages to pull a surprise. Talking of that Super Group, England are going to be toast if they actually top their group or come second as it's a very high likelihood they'll be going off against France or Portugal. If it's Germany they probably stand a better chance as Neuer has a habit of wondering out of Goal which is what ultimately cost them the 2018 World Cup as Son was perched up at the Halfway line. The England squad itself isn't too bad, but I am not too sure on their tactics in general. It seems to be extremely defensive and while that works, it's hardly a winning formula. I do think that the front line is really good though, Sterling, Kane, Rashford and Saka are all very strong players in their own right.

France are clear favourites for me. World class players in the first 11 and on the bench.
England will do their usual….play like a bunch of individuals with no clear and obvious plan to win. Although Greece and Denmark winning the Euros has shown that anything is possible, so I’ll cling on to hope until we’re finally knocked out again in disappointing circumstances 😆
