Other 'scrum' stops that spring to mind.
Lewisham Town Hall stop on the 171/185 towards Holborn/Victoria The Aylesham Centre stops in Rye Lane, Peckham Any bus stop in Lewisham involving the P4 as passengers rush for the few seats on the route. Normally standing room only by Ladywell.

A couple of observations regarding passenger use of the emergency door switch buttons.
On the P13 today, a passenger used the button on a New Cross bound vehicle in Peckham Bus Station as it wasn't at the bus stop stuck in a bus jam. All so this ignorant passenger could get on an already packed P12.
On the 197, the driver didn't realise a passenger wanted to exit the bus despite multiple bell presses. Another passenger told him to press the emergency open button.
It's becoming more common and undermines the driver's role in controlling the flow of passengers entering and exiting the bus.

Is MW helping out on the 185 or are Q drivers operating those vehicles?

The 185 has become more busier in the last 18 months or so, especially between Camberwell Green and Forest Hill at all times of the day. I've seen vehicles full to the brim even on a Sunday evening.

I'd rather have a bus full of kissing gay men than some of the complete idiots who disrupt the service because of various issues.

I think Hendy's point is that while we have a reasonably good transport system, those low paid workers can't reach the jobs in central London cheaply without numerous bus changes, while rail prices them out.
I'm lucky that being in Zone 3 I have direct bus services to the West End and Victoria despite being slow and I can just about afford trains, but that isn't always the case for low paid workers who rely on their 7 day bus and tram pass.

The bus lane on Haymarket was like riding on a dirt track.

The P13 was diverted away from Chadwick Road due to "inconsiderate parking" Time to re-route again? Anyway, what do you mean about re-route again? What was the route before? The route used to run from Avondale Rise along Malfort Road and Grove Hill Road, then DKH (the top end) and then into Sainsburys to line of route. It was re-routed along Pytchley Road after similar parking issues raised by local residents.

Considering the frequency of the 345 in comparison to the P13, wouldn't this make the section between Peckham and New Cross with too much capacity?
However, there should be a route from Peckham which serves the retail park and Sainsburys inside rather than from the main road.

There was a low bridge in Addiscombe (where the trams now cross) that was why the 12A and 12B (Sundays) also 289 was SMS then LS operated when the bridge was removed it then made it possible for double deck operation (I believe last day of 12B had an L running) to be replaced by 312 after operated by L's Also if I remember correctly it ran it two overlapping sections PM-TC and Norwood Junction-Selsdon (with a couple of journeys to Riddlesdown for school kids) I remember a TC driver telling me that the worst thing they did with the 12A/B was re-extending them from Forest Hill to Peckham as reliability simply dropped. The only reason they had to make the extension was because they cut the 12 back from Penge to Dulwich and replaced it with the 176 (which doesn't serve Peckham) and, for some odd reason, the 78 got sent through to Forest Hill, though I suspect that was more to do with stand space at Dulwich. Moz I suppose the 176 covered the frequency between Forest Hill and Penge and the 78 combined with the 12A/B between Peckham and Forest Hill. The 176 extension was required to keep the central London connections east of Dulwich Library. Personally cutting back the 78 to Peckham Rye at the time and increasing the 312 (now the 197)'s frequency to compensate was a mistake. A second route starting from Forest Hill would have maintained a more reliable service for those living between Forest Hill and Dulwich travelling to Peckham.

The 12A wasn't a longer route as it ran in section; Peckham to TC and Norwood Junction to Selsdon/old lodge lane so there would have been 2 routes between Norwood Junc and Croydon plus the 197 so probabaly more capacity was needed when the 312 started as the 2 routes were lost. I'm not sure if the 12 freq to Norwood Junction as i don't think all 12s ran that far? Or where they started? The 12B was a long route mind, it operated from Peckham to Chipstead Valley. As for Route 12, I'm sure towards the end that it operated in two overlapping sections. NJ to Oxford Circus and Dulwich or Peckham to Willesden Garage. There were also journeys to Elmers End Garage.

I remember the 12A. Even then, the route was busy between Peckham and Forest Hill, especially when the 12 was curtailed to Dulwich Plough in 1988, although it was supplemented by the 78. I miss riding those Leyland Nationals.
From what I recall, the original 312 replaced the 12A and part of 12B in September 1991.
