Perhaps the London underground could consider keeping the remaining C stock on the District Line as short run extras along the Wimbledon branch, Earl's Court to Wimbledon for example. The line somewhat parallels routes like the 14, 22, 39 and 93 through and out from Putney.

Earl's Court does not even have the capacity to run a 20-minute service to Kensington (Olympia) which is why the weekday service had to be dropped just so they could increase the frequency on the Wimbledon branch. I doubt it would have enough to add extra Wimbledon services. It certainly has no capacity to terminate services by letting trains sit in platforms. And looking at the Carteo track map it would be physically impossible anyway as there is no ability to switch tracks after Parson's Green station, so to terminate trains there would mean bi-drectional running on a single track through Fulham Broadway and West Brompton. Although they could terminate in High Street Kensington, as the Kensington (Olympia) service does, this would mean adding conflicts with via Victoria services as well as via Hammersmith ones and so be an even bigger drain on capacity. carto.metro.free.fr/cartes/metro-london/

I remember seeing an empty C stock train parked between the east and westbound tracks, though this was more than 15 years ago. The train was set to return back to Wimbledon.

There is no siding between Earl's Court and Gloucester Rd stations there is a crossover (along with limit of shunt markings) that is mainly used early AM and very late PM to reverse trains east to west (i.e. trains to from Acton/Lillie Bridge depots). It is occasionally used in times of service disruption to reverse trains From Platform 2 to Platform 3 however it could not effectively be used during peak hours as it would affect the city bound services as in the time to detrain to do the shunt and slot into the westbound train flow.

An interesting set of bus service plans for the bridge closure. They're more ambitious than I thought they might be with more split services and more routes reaching each end of Putney Bridge to give people the option of walking across. It looks like Lower Richmond Road and Putney Common are going to be very full of buses. Interesting to see just how frequent the 72 ends up being.

Good use of displaced TA's to (indirectly) bolster the 72.
Surprised the 485 didn't get an increase though.

Good use of displaced TA's to (indirectly) bolster the 72. Surprised the 485 didn't get an increase though. I wonder if TfL are reluctant to enhance the 485 for fear of suddenly creating a lot of patronage and then having to scale the service back after the closure. For what looks to be a quick and simple link between 4 town centres I am astonished it's as poor a service as it is.

Funny most of this is was suggested by myself and a few others at the beginning of this thread. Not surprised that the 14, 22, 74, 220 are to be curtailed to Putney Bridge. 265 to Wandworth makes sense replacing the 220. 270 to Putney Common was also suggested not surprised either. Don't see the point of running the 430 in two sections when it follows the 74.

Really this could be covered by a temporary extension of the 190 and a frequency boost on the 74. Moz

Seeing as the main 220 Hammersmith - Wandsworth link in severed , I too am surprised about the 485. They could have opted to extend the 391 over Wandsworth Bridge. I think the 33 is going to need a pvr increase to cope with congestion. I would expect the extra TA buses at PK for the 220 will transfer to FW , as a pvr reduction will be in place on 220. May also see some reinstated DPS buses for pvr increase on 265 ( probably only by 2 or 3 )

I guess there will be no Wimbledon to Earls Court district line weekend suspensions as running replacement buses would be hard with out putney bridge not to mention that some passengers travelling from out eh to Fulham will switch to the tube

A check of the 6 month look ahead shows no Wimbledon Line closures from July until December.
