Thornberry dropped as new ministers announcedLong-time shadow cabinet minister Emily Thornberry will have no ministerial role in the new Labour government, the BBC understands.www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjm9ep4gr84o I can understand that. You don't necessarily want a relic from the Corbyn era still around. That's why Starmer wanted Dianne Abbot gone by the time he was in power. Now that she's Mother of the House, it will be very hard for him to ignore her. It makes sense why he wanted to offer her a peerage, so her political sway can literally fall on deaf ears in the House of Lords.

In fairness as party leader you have to unite the whole party and everyone needs to sing from the same song sheet, the same applies to the next Conservative leader also.
When Tony Blair assembled his first ministry, he had no choice but to have John Prescott as deputy, same as Keir has with Angela Rayner as these positions are mandated by the party membership, not the Prime Minister. However Tony Blair appointed Tony Banks as Sports Minister, Tony was no Blair ally and firmly left footed, but Tony loved Sport, it was a ministry Tony relished and brought all sides together. I was hoping Kier would do the same with John McDonald who I think is very capable and a great communicator and no i'm not a Corbyn fan. People may not like Blair but he run a united party, which is no mean feat!

Yet Dodds, Rayner, Eagle, Bryant, Powell etc all have hung on from the Corbyn era shadow cabinet with prominent roles in the Starmer frontbench. Rayner is barely a Corbyn ally anymore, she played a part in his dropping and eventual expulsion from the party and now sits quite firmly on the right of it. Her popularity is soaring and I'd not be surprised to see her eventually in the Home Secretary position. All the others are effectively in powerless positions. Starmer is clearly playing the long game, initially starting with a relatively left biased cabinet before purging everyone bit by bit. I remember when Dodds was shadow Chancellor, while initially an absurd choice it did allow for the purging of the left to be done in a staged and relatively harmless manner. She is treacherous and not loyal and only for herself.

I'm not saying would be better under a Tory rule, far from it but it does show how there are many factors that effect how the country operates and how it needs to live with its means.
